YH Dim Sum — Restaurant in Jacksonville

A very pleasant surprise! We had a previous experience dining at the Chinese restaurant that was formerly at this location and it was not a great experience. However we were very happy with the experience at this new concept.

The food is more consistent with higher-end Chinese resaurants than your typical strip mall type. We tried a variety of dishes during our meal and none of it was disappointing. We stuck with more common types of dishes but there is a wide variety of options on the menu and some can range quite exotic. There are both traditional plating options as well as a variety of dim sum. This may now be our favorite Chinese restaurant in Jacksonville.

The amount of food served per dish was generous for the price. Each main dish should be enough to feed 4 or more people, and we found we ordered easily twice as much food as needed for a family of 4 for a meal which stayed under $60. We had leftovers for days. As is typical for Chinese restaurants, food was delivered to the table fairly quickly after ordering.

Service was generally very good, attentive, and without any real issues. We were provided with a large selection of menus which seemed to all have different dishes. It looked to include different menus for dinner, lunch, dim sum, and possibly some specialities. Some of the menus were well designed with good explanations of the content of each dish, and were very accurate to what was presented. Others not so much.

The styling of the restaurant is somewhat sparse and the presentation doesn't do justice to the quality of the food being offered. Certainly the styling is nowhere near as upscale as many of the dishes on the menu and a visual update would be warranted. However this is by no means a deterrent to returning to the restaurant or a significant detriment to the enjoyment of the meal. The bar area seems to have absorbed a lot of the styling cost for the restaurant and seems fairly nice.

Gorgeous restaurant, very attentive & friendly staff, fair price point. These are my top take aways from YH Dim Sum. Saturday I was looking for dim sum/dumplings. The top two choices were between this place, yh dim sum, or go somewhere I’ve already tried nearby and like. I decided to try something new and come here. There is Plenty of free parking, and a gorgeous, open restaurant with big windows and loads of natural light. I loved the way this restaurant is set up, it’s very pretty, and not overly loud once inside. You can carry on a conversation at your table just fine, even with a full restaurant. Great perk!

Glancing at the menu, the prices were very fair. You would think walking into the restaurant and taking everything in, it would be pricier, but it isn’t! Very nice surprise. Another notice about the menu, we were a little disappointed there weren’t more dumpling/dim sum options. We were in the mood for that in particular, not necessarily large Chinese entree options, but that is on us for not knowing or looking at the menu ahead of time. No big deal.

We did order the soup dumplings which was my favorite thing I tried here. Also ordered the corn egg drop soup (feeds 3-4 people, family style soup options) The corn egg drop soup did have great flavor, but also a lot of cornstarch - just a heads up. Lastly we tried the spicy Szechuan chicken entree. Not super spicy if you are worried about how hot the heat is. This dish is heavy on the vegetables which I liked, but my friend wished there was more protein vs veggies on this dish. The chicken does not come breaded.

All in all, I loved it. I shared my quick, positive thoughts on my Instagram story. Also shared with my co worker saying we should do a certain yelp elite event here now that I’ve scoped out the place with my own two eyes.
