We happened upon this place one weekend morning while hunting for an espresso on our way to Mackerel Cove and felt very fortunate that we did. There is a new generation of coffee out there and once your eyes have been opened it becomes very difficult to find satisfaction in the thin & flavorless, the burnt & bitter, or the over-milked options served in the vast majority of places in RI. The Village Hearth has a small handful of New Harvest Coffee Roaster trained barista who take their job just seriously enough to pull you a solid espresso without the attitude or pretense that all-too-often accompanies such things. We shared a simple sandwich of ham, whole grain mustard, and greens on a baguette that was just what we were hoping it would be: crunchy, flavorful, and fully satisfying. The cafe itself is rustic, airy, and beautiful and the foliage-sheltered wraparound porch is one of the most pleasant places in Jamestown to sip and nibble. I definitely recommend stopping in the next weekend you find yourself in the area and in need of a...
Read moreIn our opinion, this place makes some of the finest pizza to be found - that means it is in contention with the "biggies" that are better known. Be aware it's not a typical pizza place - they have two selections (one of them differs) each week. No calling in..and, during the season there is likely going to be a wait. BUT, hey, this is a "destination" place, not your local "I need some grease" pizza joint. The only downside I can think of is that those with sensitive gums may find the sauce a bit too spicy. All in all, I'd give it a 9 out of 10, which means it is better than many famous pies! This is neapolitan type of pie - small and quickly cooked...and perhaps the best part is the dough/crust. Being a bakery they seem to have somehow inserted chewy italian bread texture and taste...
Read moreStopped in here on the way to Beavertail to get breakfast to go. The service was good and very pleasant. My wife and I had a breakfast sandwich on a Portuguese muffin. The two sandwiches we had were tasty with fresh eggs, a good amount of bacon on one and sausage on the other. The bacon was cooked well and of good quality. The sausage could have had a little more seasoning however was not bad overall. We also got a blueberry scone, ham and Asiago scone and a chocolate chip cookie. Unfortunately did not enjoy any of the three. The cookie had a grainy texture instead of soft and chewy, also did not like the taste. The two scones were more of a cake like texture and the blueberry one needed more blueberries. We would go back for a breakfast sandwich however not for...
