We treated ourselves to celebrate our anniversary and we're beyond disappointed. Our server was the worst. We waited almost 20 minutes before being approached by her then another 10 minutes before we had our cocktails (both short pour martinies). Hourderves took forever and left much to be desired. The first entree(the evening special) supposedly a prime cut of steak came out with a glaze all over it which we soon discovered hide a cut of supreme cut grissel laced with scant bites of tender meat was an insult. The second entree (lobster scampi) consisted of tasteless lobster sauce served over overcooked bland pasta. To make matters worse our dinner wine (ordered at the same time as our entrees) was brought to us 25 minutes after delivery of our meals. We did ask another server to help us and she said that she would tell our server but this did not happen. When our server stopped by to see if we were enjoying our meals we asked for our wine again. Our server quickly left to get our wine (25 minutes late) arrived at our table with 2 glasses of wine and said it would be on the house and it's a good thing it was because one glass had the expected amount and the other glass was half the amount at this point we we're unbelievably disappointed and just wanted to get out if there. We sipped our second round of short pours and pushed the grissel and bland lobster around on our plates as we waited for our server to come to our table so we could pay and leave. Our server never made it back to our table, once again we asked another server for our check and she said she'd send our server to us. Fifteen minutes later no server. Now totally fed up we got up and walked inside to pay our bill. Once inside our server approached us asking us if we wanted desert. REALLY! We declined and she said we could have whatever we wanted "on the house" and that she would bag it to go. We again declined telling her that we were all set. This all happened on August 16, 2018 on a very slow Thursday night. Needless to say, this was a terrible all around dining experience. This was less than a sunstandard fine dining experience. Don't waste your money. You'd be better served at the local pub...
Read moreWe brought our whole family to Jamestown, a wonderful island where we have lived and loved. The Bay Voyages great location and promise of a pool, a nice grilling area and kitchen in the rooms helped to make our selection. As close as three days before our arrival, the concierge was reassuring my concerns about the very limited kitchen facilities (only a microwave and Mini fridge) by telling as about the nice grilling options and outside area to eat . Imagine our disappointment when we arrived to discover the pool had been closed for 10 days. And what is absolutely senseless, the grill is located in the pool area and they would not allow us to enter and grill under any circumstances (we offered to sign waiver stating we would not go in the pool but would only grill). We were given the option of driving over the Newport Bridge (a hefty toll) in order to use their associated property which really didn’t appeal or work for us as we have a number of little children with us and transportation isn’t easy or fun. They kept promising the pool would open the next day but we arrived on Sunday and are now being to do the best hope is an opening some time Friday. So no pool, grill or outside area whatsoever to enjoy the nice weather and view. We were given a measly $60 coupon for shops in Jamestown which supposedly work at every store but don’t and certainly don’t buy much for 8 people. So overall we are not happy although we are manage to make then list of things and have fun, no thanks to the Bay Voyage. We feel the management should have alerted all guests before arrival about the pool/grill situation and they should be making the grill and outside area available and they should have offered us at least one complimentary dinner at their restaurant since I had planned to grill every night since the kitchen if so limited and now we are having to go out and the cost of this vacation has increased...
Read moreThis is my Home Resort at Club Wyndham. I've owned for many years (30 plus). The location is second to none. It is convenient to get to, and easily accessible. There are some drawbacks like the rooms facing the traffic side of the resort, but that's a function of location that cannot be changed. As travelers discover the lure, and lore of Jamestown traffic has increased over the years. The rooms need to be updated. The furniture is old, and out sync with the times. The rooms are, indeed, small. However, the size is a function of the times the building was built. The electronic keys don't work so well, and I found that other guest also had problems getting in and out of the resort, and their rooms. All doors are locked for security. I would recommend cameras at the points of entry, and stairwells. The lobby is updated, although I don't think it's the best use of the space. It used to be more welcoming physically. The style was more Victorian, traditional, and stately. Now, the décor is modern, contemporary, again out of sync with the style of the building. The restaurant, and patio have been updated for the better. Please bear in mind that the restaurant is a separate entity than the resort, and warrant their own review. This is, at least, the fifth, or sixth restaurant that has tried to establish itself there. The pool is well kept, and relaxing. The facility is away from the hubbub of Newport, but within reach by car, bus, or ferry. I recommend the ferry. The staff has a lot of turnover throughout the years, but then again, that is a function of the location. The maintenance staff deserves mention for keeping the grounds, and facility, immaculate. Also deserving mention are the front desk attendants Isabel, John, and a young man with...
