Cozumel Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Janesville

I have been to this restaurant many times throughout its existence in Janesville. This evening's( 05/13/21)visit was the first since before Corona virus. My experience with the restaurant was always a positive one with much better food than what was purchased tonight. It appears as the prices have raised exponentially from previous times and quality has decreased. Immediately after being seated and menus passed around, the attendant inquires into drinks and returns with the drinks and a basket of tortilla chips and dip. In past times, the chips were served warm and fresh. For whatever reason, the chips were not warm and most certainly were not fresh. My wife, daughter, and self were shocked as we each tried the chips. They were hard, stale tasting and actually strained my molars from chewing. My wife requested another basket of chips while we waited for our order. She stated the reason to the waiter. The chips were stale. He returned with a fresh basket. The chips were still not warmed as they were in past times, and they were very similar to the first basket. We declined to eat these as well. As the order was being taken, I listed specific instructions on what meat I was purchasing. My wife, and daughter made the same specific instructions for their meals. After a lengthy wait, our meals were brought. My meat had been substituted with another meat. My wife and daughter both had correct orders. Upon seeing the meat that obviously wasn't what I ordered, I stood up and took the meal back. My wife and daughter continued to eat. After another lengthy wait, my meal was brought back correctly. Unfortunately, I had no silverware to use because that was on the plate that was returned. I had another substantial wait for silverware as the rest of the family were almost done eating. Finally, another waiter had noticed I didn't have utensils and brought me a new set. As I began to eat, the family were finishing up. There was no reason for them to allow their meals to get cold while I waited for mine. Although the waiter was apologetic and sincere, it was an experience that we are not likely to repeat. It's an expensive gamble going to restaurants today. Our check was over 50 dollars with a reduced tip and frankly, was a waste of money due to the poor quality of service and...

Cozumel constantly messes up my order regularly but today took the cake. On 05/22/22 I called to place an order for pick up and the worker on the phone told me my food would be ready in 25 mins. I arrived on time and after 45 mins past the time I placed my order I asked the worker how much longer it would be for my food at this point a cook or manager came out and told me my order had never been processed even though I had already paid for my food upon arrival. The woman on the phone that takes orders is not qualified to simply listen and take an order correctly. I believe this establishment has an issue with African American customers so if you are black please avoiding going to a place where you will receive poor service, different sized portion meals compared to other ethnicities, and overall a bad experience. I will be going out this week with a picket sign to warn their potential customers of this facilities practices to make sure I effect their overall revenue without having to resort to physical violence and getting into trouble. Let me start by saying, I LOVE Mexican food, people and culture. I have learned how to make authentic Mexican dishes, not the Tex Mex stuff most people make at home. So it's fair to say I'm pretty particular when it comes to Mexican Cuisine. First off I liked the decore and the staff was friendly and we were seated pretty quickly. The place seemed very clean and in good repair. We were seated in a booth area that seemed pretty cozy but not ridiculously tight. We were brought chips and salsa I thought really quick, drinks were brought pretty quick. The Salsa was perfect to me. Not watery and runny like a lot of them, had a nice bite and good flavor. Chips were just a tad stale, not complaining we were in right after open so I'm sure they were from the night before. I didn't think the wait for the food was long, my friends said it was longer than usual. Food was hot, it was amazing and plenty of it! Refills came quickly and so did the bill!
