“The Cajun Menu” - During Their Soft Opening, Jasper, Georgia
Hey, dawlin! This New Orleans Girl is here to tell you that this is the real deal. The owners, family, and staff are awesome! The family is from Cocadrille, Louisiana! Ya know where dat is? Right in de heart of Cajun Country. Like me, John, who owns the restaurant with his wife, has been cookin since the age of 2 with a chair pulled up to de counter with his mama. That’s how we do it down there. His son, Ethan, impressively runs a well-organized kitchen at the young age of 17; cooking since he was a little boy as well. Taylor gave us great service today on her birthday, as did the rest of the staff who came by. We had a great visit with them!
Now for de food! This is de real deal! Not like other restaurants that say they are Cajun and serve food the way they think Cajun food is. This is Cajun food and it is done right, just as they do in Cajun Country!
The three of us ordered: 2 shrimp po’ boys, a roast beef po’ boy, and a cup of seafood gumbo. They even brought out a nice portion of their seafood boil to us as lagniappe (which means “a little something extra” for y’all you aren’t from there). Thank you for that!
The po’ boys come dressed (lettuce and tomato) or without, your preference. We chose dressed. The shrimp are battered nicely, well sized, and are perfectly fried. Their Cajun Mayo adds a splendid spicy kiss to this goodness.
The roast beef po’ boy with debris gravy goodness is on point. The roast beef itself is slow roasted for 10 hours to falling apart goodness. Scrumptious!
The seafood gumbo is different than what you are used to but the flavor is on point and the meat is very tender. Generous portion of rice. The shrimp amazingly are not overcooked. Remember, gumbo can be made a lot of different ways. Their gumbos take 2 days to make in order to get the desired flavor. (Takes me 2 days also.) It was a generous portion (about 16 ounces) for a cup of gumbo and we all enjoyed it immensely.
Next. Let’s talk about the boil. They do it differently from what I’m used to (no corn, potatoes, onyum, or garlic) but wow! No complaints about this bowl of heaven! Today it had shrimp, andouille, and mushrooms. Oh, mannnn, we have never had mushrooms so good. The flavor and beautiful spice made me see Jesus. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t not the only one at that table. I wish I’d gotten some boil to bring home.
There’s some seriously good spiciness up in here!!! You can taste the love!
Note that the bread you see in the pictures is not the bread you will get. They had a bread situation today and while it was fresh, it’s not the bread they normally carry. Don’t worry, you’ll get French Bread when you get there and your po’ boy will also be longer.
Ambience: The dining room itself has lighting for daytime and really cool lighting for nighttime, see photos! His mother did the paintings on one wall and his wife took photographs on the other wall.
Remember that they are easing into their business and this is a soft opening as they work out the kinks. More things will be added and adjusted. Beer and wine will be offered. You may have to BYOB for the moment - feel free to call and check with them about that.
We can’t wait to go back!
My rating: 5 out of 5 beans! ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️

Read moreI have experienced the food at Cajun Menu three times and each time it was amazing. The first experience was with two of my buddies for dinner one evening when our wives were busy at a gathering. I had the Alligator Sauce Piquant which was full bodied, flavorful, and filling. My friends tried and really enjoyed the Low Country Boil and the Seafood Gumbo. During our dinner the owner/chef stopped by our table to ensure we were satisfied and offer samples of other menu items if we wanted. I was very satisfied with my meal and excited to see Canton, Georgia widening its selection of restaurants. My second experience with the great food and staff of the Cajun Menu was at our local community’s Taste of Canton event. The CM folks were set up and ready to make an impact on the community with a selection of menu items perfect for the occasion. My wife was able to try the Low Country Boil and stated she wanted to visit the restaurant. My third experience was last night (October 24) when my wife, another couple, and I went to Cajun Menu for dinner. The food and staff were fantastic. The four of us covered the menu with Low Country Boil, Crawfish Alfredo, Shrimp and Grits, and my selection of Seafood Gumbo with Okra. Even though they were short one server the staff pulled it together and kept the food and beverages coming. My Seafood Gumbo was packed with shrimp, sausage, chicken, and crab meat pulled together in the traditional dark roux. The spicing was out of this world - it got my attention with the bite and mellowed out as I rolled the tasty concoction over my tongue. My wife doesn’t do sausage but the chef was eager to substitute more shrimp in the Low Country Boil. I tried a couple of the shrimp and a bite of the corn on the cob. Wow, the flavor and spice were super. Tammy, the owner/chef, stopped by our table to ensure all was well and we let her know we were very satisfied and are planning to be regular customers. I want to close this review by encouraging you to stop by Cajun Menu in Canton, Georgia and get a great meal and a solid taste of Cajun delights just a bit...
Read moreGrossly Overpriced! As a Louisiana native, I looked forward to trying this place, but was very disappointed. We went for dinner on a Monday night. I was expecting a $10-20/per person menu, based upon Google and the atmosphere (which is similar to a gas station eatery. It was clean, but not the least bit nice). When we sat down to look at the menu, we were shocked by the staggering prices, i.e. $30 for a bowl of red beans and rice, $28 for shrimp Alfredo, and $34 for Alligator Sauce Piquant. However, the waitress was already on her way to get drinks, so we decided to stay and split a couple of entrees (it was myself and my 3 kids- 13/14 yr old). We figured maybe they were huge portions for those prices. My son and I split the Alligator Sauce Piquant, and my other two kids split the Shrimp Alfredo. We ordered waters and teas. The Sauce Piquant had an excellent, authentic flavor - very good! Though, it did not contain much of the alligator meat. The portion was barely enough for us to split. The Shrimp Alfredo was runny and bland, and the shrimp were also very bland and devoid of much seasoning. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she said they don’t use dry seasonings on the shrimp, but just boil it in the seasonings (I guess crab boil), but they couldn’t have boiled more than 10 min for such a bland taste. The piquant was very tasty, while the Alfredo was awful. They did try to make it again (without me even asking) and it was a bit better, and I appreciate them trying to make it right. However, I suppose their right way to make it just isn’t very good. I would return for Sauce Piquant if it wasn’t $34 a bowl! (And just a regular-sized bowl). Two entrees and two teas with a tip costs $89.90!! Please don’t bother! You can do a LOT...
