I live close by & always wanted to check this place out. So happy we did & as suspected we are big fans now. Highly recommend making a reservation as this place is packed to the gills on any given night. Even though it feels packed you still have a sense of intimacy and privacy at your table. It’s definitely a place to converse and enjoy your dinner company and keep your phone put away in your pocket. Of course I had to take pics to share but next time I am fully tuning out. The service is a really nice pace, not too much checking in and a lot of time to enjoy your dishes. We went for the Chicago Restaurant Week specials and the menus and price point really blew us away. The decor is simple and cozy and the lighting was divinely dim. They had great little lamps on every table that assist with being able to see the menu without disrupting the ambiance.
The one and only little negative thing I’ll say, and I’ll preface this by sharing that my husband is a professional chef of 20yrs and I’m a seasoned home cook- one dish we ordered tasted like butane so strongly that we couldn’t finish it. What may have happened is the flame torch had incomplete combustion, or if you don’t let the initial burst of gas burn off, you can ruin a dish. I was so excited to try the Richman Rainbow sushi dish and it was absolutely gorgeous when it arrived but we both took a piece and it completely tasted like butane. I tried a second piece to ensure it wasn't a fluke. I then put the dish up to my nose and it reeked. We left the dish alone and ate the other things that were coming to our table and when we gave our server the feedback it wasn’t well received. We were as nice as possible about it but did want to let them know that there was an issue. We didn’t want free food or a replacement, just to let them know that they may want to adjust their torch. Our server seemed to take it personally which is a shame. I unfortunately tasted butane in my mouth for the rest of the night no matter what I ate.
But, truly, did not ruin our experience at all and we will eat here again. I would just be wary of any dish that highlights being torched in the future.
The regular menu is extensive and we cannot wait to come back and try more! So happy we popped in.
The pictures speak for themselves but I also shared the menus from the special week. And holy schnikeees the berry compote that came with the cheesecake was INSANE. Best I’ve ever had. The Tonkotsu Ramen was top tier, I will be craving that broth for days. Let’s keep this place open! A total treasure. I loved the wood and gold paneling details on the...
Read moreThe Ramen barely comes with any broth. Only half a container. They charge $4 for an additional container of broth. Everytime I have ordered, in the past, I order the additional broth and the container has been filled and there has been no problems. This last time I ordered and paid for more broth, I was met with 2 employees being very rude when I asked why the second broth container was not filled. They were very patronizing and the one even went to talk to the "chef" and returned saying he said "I do this all the time". I told them I do not and have not ordered from them in months so was clueless to this accusation. They must have been confusing me with someone else. I went home and called the restaurant to talk to the manager because I was so offended by how disrespectful the staff was at the restaurant and wanted to clear up any miscommunication. The lady on the phone informed me she was the owner and one of the staff I had talked to. She again insinuated me, was condescending, told me I was unappreciative, then patronizong when she fake appologized to me asking me if that's what I wanted. She even made me cry....again all because I asked for a full broth container, that I paid for. I barely order from here and they were so rude, accusing me of things that haven't happened. I live in the neighborhood and will not be eating here again. I'm appalled by the customer service and the owner! If the restaurant chooses to respond to this review, know that they are saving face and I hope their condicending attitudes are displayed in...

They also have outdoor seating in season. There is free side street parking. Service is excellent and restrooms are very clean.
Their Tom Yum soup was enough for 4 people. It was flavorful and had a lot of shrimp, mussels and squid. We had veggie egg rolls which were nice and crispy along with Takoyaki (octopus balls). All appetizers were made fresh and came to the table hot. I didn’t really care for the Thai iced tea.
We ordered a bunch of different sushi rolls including nigiri. It came to the table nicely presented on a natural slate platter. All seafood tasted fresh and the best thing I liked was that the rolls weren’t all rice like other places! They give you more seafood in the rolls. Everything we ordered was delicious and I would recommend everything!
I thought for the amount of sushi we ordered (see pic) they should have given more wasabi and ginger on the board. I did ask for more and they did provide it but we had already finished most of the sushi by then.
The desert cheesecake is made in house. Light and fluffy and can easily be shared with 3 people. I’d like to return to try a bento box, curries and udon dishes. Great place for sushi...
