Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT eat here OR eat at your own risk. We drove 2 hours to come to this restaurant and we were very excited as this place had Guatemalan, Mexican and Salvadorian food. We had a hard time deciding what we wanted to order and the server got very impatient, she ended up being very rude to one of the people at the table and went as far as doing an eye roll and getting in his personal space. Anyone can have a bad day so we let it go. We ordered our food and it honestly took around 30 minutes to get it. When we got our food it was flavorless! The steak was raw with more fat than meat, the “salad” was just spinach leaves with whole cherry tomatoes, the chicken, beans and fries were so dry and stale that it was probably sitting out for a very long time. On top of that my “salad” had a hair in it. We contemplated letting the manager know and ultimately decided that we wanted to talk to her. When she came over, we were very kind with letting her know what was wrong and all she had was excuses for the food AND service. She went to the kitchen to see what had went wrong and she came back saying that she didn’t know what was wrong with us as she had checked everything in the kitchen and that it looked perfect. She said that when they get the cinnamon sometimes it has so much hair that they have to throw it out and maybe that’s why there was a hair in my salad or that maybe it was mine. The server was laughing the in a mockingly manner the whole time we had the conversation with the “manager” (if you can even call her that). Since the manager had no resolutions we decided to pay the $128.00 which $20 of that was MANDATORY GRATUITY and leave. While paying, the server told us that she got yelled at and that basically it was our fault even though she had been rolling her eyes, invading our personal space and laughing at us. She also mentioned that she rolled her eyes and was rude because we couldn’t make up our mind on what to eat although it was her job.
IN CONCLUSION, THIS IS THE WORST RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO IN CHICAGO. OVERALL BAD FOOD, LONG WAIT TIMES AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON’T EAT HERE AND IF IT IS ABSOLUTELY YOUR VERY LAST CHOICE ONLY CHOOSE THE PUPUSAS AS THAT’S THE ONLY EDITABLE THING THERE! 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
I would give this restaurant 0 stars if I could. As a business owner, this is NO WAY to treat a customer. Very disappointed.
Read moreThe staff were friendly and thoughtful and all the food was so delicious. I look forward to coming back and bringing friends!
Loved the artwork and decorations that made it fun to look around while we were trying to decide what to eat from all great options on the menu or waiting for food to arrive.
We got there around 5:30pm on Saturday and there was definitely a stream of families and other folks arriving after us, so glad we beat dinner rush!
Edit - I just ordered take out today and got a lot more flavors of pupusas because they are so tasty and we wanted to share with friends who were very interested after they heard about our last trip. We also enjoyed the Pepian chicken stew and more of the delicious corn drink. Though I finished mine too quickly, that's my only complaint and not their problem!
Edit x2 - came back for takeout towards the end of the day and really enjoyed the beautiful textile arts they have on display now while waiting for the order! Food was just as delicious as before and stayed hot until we got home. I left it up to the staff what pupusas to put in my order and all of them were SO delicious. My mom got the pork adobada dinner and loved it, we each have leftovers for...
Read moreCame in yesterday with my boyfriend and was excited to have him try pupusas for the first time. We came in got seated. We placed our orders for food 10 minutes after being seated. We ordered 4 pupusas revualtas, a shrimp pupusa and an order of rellenitos. I know typically from my past experience service at pupuserias is a bit slower than most other places. We waited 50 minutes for our food to come and it never arrived. Meanwhile, all the tables around us had been served and given their food, including people who had been seated after us. We became impatient and just got up and left. I understand the restaurant was busy but it's ridiculous when people who arrive after you and place similar sized orders as you get served their food before you do. I was excited to try this restaurant because I had been looking for a pupuseria near my apartment but because of this bad experience I don't think we will be returning.
If you're looking for a nicer restaurant for pupusas I recommend...
