Folks DON’T WASTE your time and money here, Mirabell is the worst German joint in Chicago, no doubt. Please, don't go to this horrible stable with rude staff and bad quality food.
I do online marketing for restaurants and bars professionally, my opinion is right to the point.
They got no clue about service. My friend and I came in for a beer, the bar was packed, we got seated at a table and got 2 beers and an appetizer since we weren’t that hungry. Believe it or not, we were treated like TRASH by the waitress (about 65 y.o., red hair) throughout entire visit. She was all about “turning tables”, this did allow us to enjoy anything and we had the worst bar time ever!
The waitress wasn’t doing anything, the only guy who was, was her Latino busser. We took care of him since he deserved it, we also left a small tip for her because we had MISERABLE SERVICE.
Guess what, when we were walking out, she made a very funky face, didn’t say anything, only gave us a cheesy smile. When I am coming out of the restroom, the hostess comes up and tries to give me the tip back in front of people around saying:”here is your change, the tip is on me.”
What a rude stupid way to treat the customers! Now this story will go viral among multiple thousands of people I know and I don’t. The food is way too overpriced for this area and is of poor quality, they think they are in River North or are very desperate which makes them to cut on food quality and service level.
Staff is mostly unfriendly, rude, unprofessional, negative, and desperate.
Guys, don’t go to this stall and waste your time and money here. Instead, I would recommend Brauhaus (the owner Guenther still works there and takes care of his customers), Laschets in Irv.Pk. Rd. or Huettenbar (no food menu but great place) which is right across from Brauhaus in Lincoln Square.
To the owner of Mirabell I would recommend to hire young, positive and energetic wait staff that creates repetitive customers. What you have there now is mainly a bunch of folks who got no clue about service and restaurant business. Please, stay in business and look into your company’s service standards. This is not the only 1 star review you have, if bad stories like this at Mirabell will continue going viral, you won’t be able to stay in business. Thanks and...
Read moreWe have been here several times and the food has always been good. Unfortunately we will not be back.
I informed the waiter that I was gluten free in addition to 2 other people in our party. He seemed very accommodating and insisted they could do any of their chicken dishes gluten free including the chicken piccata. It would just be without the breading. We ordered 2 of them and became suspicious they were floured so we asked the waiter. There was an honest mistake and he said only one of them was gluten free. The problem was that they looked exactly the same. They were clearly coated in flour. I asked him several more times, and had to make an issue of it for him to finally go talk to the kitchen… not that he needed to because there’s no way he didn’t know it was breaded, or he would have double checked the first time we asked. He then came out and said they will just give us grilled chicken and the sauce… which is what we expected in the first place.
He also refused to acknowledge it verbally when I asked if the kitchen confirmed it was coated in flour.
We got the gluten free chicken and it was impossible to confuse it with the regular one. There is no way he didn’t know. My mom and brother got glutened. We believe the waiter lied to us. It looked COMPLETELY different.
On top of that, they didn’t inform us the $5 fountain soda did not include free refills and there was $70 in Diet Coke on our bill.
If everything wasn’t slimy enough, there was a mandatory 20% gratuity which is fine… except they used the total including tax to calculate the 20%.
At that point we felt disrespected enough to speak up. I asked them to fix everything. They asked me why they should take the chicken off since they gave us new chicken. I don’t think they cared that they poisoned 2 people and the waiter lied to our faces.
The owner did fix the 20% gratuity and take off the diet cokes and the chicken. He was very nice about it.
I have never had a server try to gaslight me into eating gluten...
Read moreFine dining in a relaxed, neighborhood atmosphere that won't break the bank. An Italian friend of mine with very high standards for Italian food has been several times and recommended it. My husband and I finally stopped in this evening for a date night and it was absolutely wonderful.
The atmosphere is great. Smallish room but with good separation between tables so it doesn't feel cramped. And the food and service are amazing! Even the included bread service is delicious (it comes with roasted garlic, butter, and another spread that was also yummy, with amazing bread). We shared the split pea soup of the day which was thick and flavorful. My hubby had the shrimp risotto which was so good that it makes you pause to savor each mouthful. I had the black tagliolini with shrimp and scallops and it was fresh and flavorful (thankfully, since the leftovers will be my next couple lunches!). The service was attentive but not hovering, and everyone was very friendly and gracious.
They have a steak selection that looks worthy of a Chicago steakhouse as well, which we plan to try on our next visit. And even the max price there (I think about $65 for surf and turf?) is still well below what you would likely pay downtown.
There is free parking across the street (and you cross at a stoplight, so no need to dodge traffic). It is also walking distance from the Addison stop on Metra and the CTA Blue Line. If you usually think of Downtown or West Loop for a "special meal," definitely consider this...
