Upon arriving just know this is what I believe is characterized as a ghost kitchen. Although this is my first time going to one, I know they are becoming more popular for restaurant owners to use. Cool, not mad at it one bit. What I didn’t particularly care for is that there are multiple restaurants operating out of this building and there’s one person that may or may not be at the front handling the takeout orders for all the restaurants inside. Otherwise, you’re picking your food up from a locker. I assume these restaurants get a lot of app orders. Guess for me it takes the hospitality out of the business and you have no idea whose the face behind who's making your food and the business itself. That was different for me and as a first time customer I didn’t particularly care for it.
I bought the spicy chicken bao and the garlic fried rice. The bao was good. I’ve had better but not bad. The fried rice though… The portion size for the garlic fried rice is plain ole degrading. They need to rename it “Inflation Fried Rice” because that’s how small the portion size was. I've included a pic even though I don't think it fully does it justice. You literally get more rice in a lunch meal from your standard Chinese takeout and Panda Express; mind you there’s also an entree that comes with those dishes at those restaurants. And it wasn’t good! Nothing but frozen peas and carrots lathered up soy sauce and a little butter. No lie, a kid could’ve made this. I went back in to ask for some soy sauce and it took 5 minutes for the reasons mentioned above. Overall, I was very disappointed and won’t be returning. I am not a person that writes reviews so if I’m doing so, that means it really wasn’t a...
Read moreOrdered from Instacart/Uber Eats, which I usually don't do, but I had a discount and really wanted Baos. This was the first (sponsored) result.
I've actually been to this location in person to pick up an order from one of the other restaurants, but I didn't know Take A Bao was associated with this ghost kitchen. I ordered the Bao meal (two spicy chicken baos) with s'more buns and pork dumplings, plus another chicken Bao with fried rice combo.
The food was lukewarm when I got it. That's fine, it's cold outside. I heated it up in the microwave for 20 seconds and even though it was warm, the chicken was so tough, I couldn't just bite it while picking the Bao up as it wouldn't separate at all. I had to use a fork to eat the meat separately, and chewing took forever. It was crazy. I've never had to do that before.
The dumplings and s'mores buns were okay. The fried rice has no flavor and reminds me of the frozen, instant fried rice I tried once from the supermarket.
Would not order again. It will clearly be a struggle to chew the rest of the two deep fried, hard chicken baos I have left. I'm usually pretty lenient with food but I'm shocked at how tough this...
Read moreRandomly stumbled on Take a Bao eats on doordash & noticed it was a fairly new restaurant so decided to give it a try. We ordered the teriyaki pork belly, crispy spicy chicken aioli & ponzu chili chicken.
The pork belly was definitely my favorite. So soft and flavorful! The chicken ones were also delicious but not as soft as the pork. They are all very fat! So much in them.
We got the complimentary baonuts with our order (if you purchase $20 or more right now it comes with your order!) and they were surprisingly really good and not too sweet which is exactly how I like my desserts.
But most importantly, the service was wonderful even though we didn’t dine in. My boyfriend ordered on his doordash and there was a mix up so the baonuts were not included. So the owner(?) came all the way to deliver just the baonuts to us!!
Wishing them best of luck on this opening and will be ordering again (when I...
