I got the beef sandwich that you dip in broth. The menu said each sandwich was supposed to be “brushed with black beans and come with salsa”. The meal was underwhelming at best.

Firstly, the sandwich was OK. Definitely not worth the $20 it costs. It came with “broth” (a cup of beef fat is a better way to describe it) and a tablespoon of salsa. The menu said it came with “brushed with black beans and salsa” so I had assumed I’d get black beans and a side of chips and salsa/ nope! No black beans, no chips. What am I supposed to do with a table spoon of salsa?

Secondly, the fact that they don’t have silverware or napkins in the eating area was frustrating. All the countertops were covered in drippings from salsa/drinks/etc. and I could not clean my eating area until I received my meal.

Eating the meal was miserable. Dipping the sandwich into straight beef fat was disgusting. Also, since I had no silverware, I had no way to fish out any chunks of meat that fell into the “broth”.

The hibiscus tea was lackluster also. It tasted like sugar water with only the slightest hint of hibiscus - water would have been preferable.

Overall, I regret eating here. McDonald’s would have been superior in...

Staff was extremely rude to me. Ordered a water and sandwich at the self ordering tablet. Bought a $7 water (sheesh) went to grab it once I was waiting for my sandwich. Manager started immediately barking at me and belligerently asking me what I was doing grabbing the water. I told him I bought a water and he aggressively demanded to see my receipt which I showed him and he kept giving attitude saying “I dont have to respect you for no reason” (not like I’m a paying customer) then to be spiteful he demanded the staff not to make my order and refunded me for everything (the wrong amount too) and took the water back. And continued to shout at me. And no I didnt raise my voice or curse at him. Hes the taller dark haired bearded manager. He clearly has zero customer service ability.

If you as a business have an issue with customers grabbing water themselves maybe dont have touch tablets as the only way to order (same rude manager/guy was ignoring me and other guests waiting to pay/order at the regular cashier).

Besides the chips here are always stale and...

Tortas Frontera was the top recommendation for food at Chicago O'Hare. This location is situated next to the food court in Terminal 3, and has bar seating, and then tables as part of the court. The service was pleasant and quick considering how popular it was. In total we only waited 7 minutes after ordering our food.

I ordered the Beef Quesabirria Torta, and it had a nice smoky flavor and pairs well with the broth. I poured the tomatillo salsa on the sandwich itself then dipped in the broth for the perfect bite. My wife ordered the Chorizo + Queso Torta, and it was better. More of a sweet and flavorful option. The sandwiches are good, but they won't fill you, especially at $18+. But the flavors are there and it's an enjoyable bite. The Mango Lime Agua Fresca is delicious, very sweet, and worth it if you enjoy sweet drinks.

Overall, I think it's a worthy ballot for top food at Chicago O'Hare, but the door is open for...

The Rick Bayless empire does have some great restaurants, grocery products and these Mexican torta (sandwich) restaurants in O'Hare Airport. Tortas Frontera mainly serves tortas although they do have a small selection of salads and soups. Also they do have an eclectic beverage selection. My problem is not with the tortas which are delicious, but with the kiosks (wouldn't take my Samsung Pay) are not always foolproof and then if you get stuck in a cluster of orders they wait until they fill the press before they make the tortas rather then pressing maybe 5 orders at a time. So about 10 people were waiting to get our orders and they pulled them all off the press, one person completed assembly (while 2-3 others stood around) then all 10 orders were called at the same time. The workflow needs to be fixed and the torta I got was tasty but assembly was super sloppy. Chef Bayless, fix this please!

While flying through ORD on a layover, I stopped in, as the place seemed like it would have a nice selection of freshly-made Mexican dishes. I sat at the bar, the bartender was moderately busy, but not very busy and service was ok. The menu wasn’t very vast, just offering several different items. I opted for chips & salsa, with their habanero salsa added (they charge $.50 more for it) and their torta made with a fried chicken breast… It arrived cut in half, the first half I ate seemed to have chicken in it all, but the second half I ate only had a small piece of chicken. The chips were decent, the salsas were just OK, but that habanero salsa was really spicy. The silly music with the same latin beat was annoyingly loud and redundant. Overall – Not worth stopping in… I won’t return.
