Bon Ton Bakery — Restaurant in Jefferson

OMG. I discovered this amazing gem passing through Jefferson recently.

This bakery is 100 years old and I'm pretty sure the woman who served me was as well. She is a part of the original family that started the business literally 100 years ago. She was the sweetest, most adorable old lady and I want to adopt her as my grandma and have her give me all the hugs and cookies. I should have asked to see pictures of her grandchildren, I know she had them ready!

When I tell you everything I tried tasted like the woman you wish was your grandma lovingly made it from scratch. I stopped in just to look around, and not buy anything, but everything looked too amazing, and I wasnt disappointed. My only regret is that I did not try more things!

In addition to baked goods they also had the best (non-fried) cheese curds I've ever tried. I bought a bag even though I had cheese curds at home already.

Only downside was that by 4pm it was very picked over and there were very few things left.

I am thinking of driving back to Jefferson (from Madison) just to try more things. Who...

I’ve driven by Bob Ton Bakery for the last few years, always wondering what it was like — and I finally stopped in. Oh my gosh, I’m so glad I did! What an absolute treat! Besides their amazing pastries, donuts, and cookies, they have some of the best bread and hard rolls you could ask for. Everything is incredibly fresh — you can tell it’s all made with care. Today, I decided to try their lunch special, which changes daily. The special was a homemade sloppy joe with potato salad and a pickle. True to its name, the sloppy joe was perfectly “sloppy” and packed with flavor. I also couldn’t resist trying their soup of the day — cream of asparagus — and it was absolutely delicious and fresh. Now I can see why this bakery has been around for over 100 years! And I have to mention the wonderful women who work there — they’re so kind, friendly, and helpful. I recently used Bon Ton Bakery as my caterer AND cake bakers for my wedding!!! Talk about hitting two birds with one stone! Extremely affordable...compare the prices to a high end caterer with small portions! Cindy was the nicest person to work with. Being such a humble person and shop, almost anything was available and possible. Due to COVID, Cindy and the staff were extremely accommodating to change our meal plan from hot buffet to delicious sandwiches, sides, salads, dressings and cupcakes ALL individually boxed up. Our head table cake turned out beautiful, too. Our guests all said the chicken salad sandwich on a large croissant was really good along with the potato salad and regular salad!
