My wife and I were looking for a good place for fireworks on Independence Day and considered many. As “tourists” here in the Louisville area we were challenged to find a really good place… We found it ! … at Upland, Jeffersonville ! We found a great place, great food, great house-brew beers, great people, live music, and about ten different fireworks shows in clear view all up and down the river. Absolutely Fantastic !!
Menus with many choices are not only overwhelming but are often an indicator that a restaurant is trying too hard to “be all things for all people”, isn’t focused on what they do best, and probably don’t do much well. Upland has a minimal menu, easy and comfortable to read, and backs it up with excellent food prepared and served by folks who know what they’re good at. We spoke with several people, many of them regulars, and were told repeatedly that you can’t go wrong with any selection from the menu. We got the chicken sandwich and the fish & chips and shared. Both were outstanding!!
Very friendly people enjoying the holiday, the food and drink, each other, the live band… Wow ! The interior of the restaurant is very attractive, open and uncluttered, appropriately decorated and lighted… but the atmosphere that night was outside on the several multi-level decks, in the river breeze and with the evening view of Louisville, the river, and all of the fireworks.
We were very fortunate and blessed to have found this place and would absolutely recommend it to others.
The band, “Gunt”, plays on the main deck each Thursday evening. A spirited and audience-conscious instrumental band consisting of guitar, keyboard, drums, and sax plays in a very enjoyable jam-style rather than endless repeats of cover tunes we’ve all heard way too many times. With a very pleasant, enjoyable, and obviously cohesive vibe, they helped us all have a great time.

Read moreUpland did a great job converting from the previous owner. The space is open and plenty of room to stand and socialize. We got to Upland about 5:30 on a Friday and there was a 45 min wait. We ended up waiting approximately and hour for the table. We enjoyed beer at the bar while we waited. All of the staff wore masks and gloves.
There is a large area outside for dining and drinks. There is a great view of the Ohio River and the Louisville skyline. I’m looking forward to I enjoying the deck area, it was just a little too chilly this time.
The food was really good. We got 2 appetizers while we waited for our food. The nachos were good. I really enjoyed the chips. The jalapeños had a good flavor but were not hot. The whipped feta and honey was different and very good. The honey gave it a different flavor.
I enjoyed tasting the carbonara. The pasta was the perfectly tender with a good taste. I really like hot chicken sandwiches and I usually try them wherever I go. I also make them at home. The chicken was tender and had a good flavor. However, the sauce was HOT, almost too hot. I ended needing some dressing to help me eat it. I will try it again to see if I just got a hot one. I would use caution if getting the hot chicken. I liked the seasoning on the chips.
As for beer, they are a brewery and have a lot of beers to choose from. A lot are hazy or sour. I’m a IPA fan so I tried a hazy one but ended up sticking with the Dragonfly. They also have seltzer and a full choice of hard liquor.
It took some time for the server to initially come to the table. Some one did check on us. Other than that the service was good especially for how busy it was. The food came out quickly and was hot.
I would certainly recommend Upland. Just plan on a wait since Upland just opened and is really popular right now. They do not take reservations or call...
Read moreI walked into Upland Brewery, a restaurant on the river that was formerly BuckHead’s Bar and Grill, with high hopes. I’m a pretty big fan of beer, especially pale ales and IPAs. The drinks I tried there were great. For my first I had a Juiced in Time (IPA) and then one of the managers let me sample the Campside Pale Ale. I ended up buying a 6-pack of the Campside to bring home. In summary, the beer aspect of the place was fantastic, and I would return to just try their numerous selection. The food aspect of my first time visit was honestly a huge let down. The pricing is a bit aggressive for the quality you receive. I made sure to go around 20 minutes after they opened (11 a.m.) so I could give a fair assessment. There were only a few other diners at the time so the kitchen (if fully staffed) wouldn’t be under pressure which could risk compromising quality. I wouldn’t say that Upland is as pricey as their predecessor BuckHeads, but the lack of flavor doesn’t help them out much in that regard. I ordered a classic Hamburger (hold the tomato) with brewery fries. The burger, while cooked to the medium well I asked for, didn’t taste of seasoning at all and the fries were the equivalent to fast food fries. In Upland’s defense, some of their other menu options did look to be a bit more diverse in ingredients and flavor combinations. Not to mention they have a huge selection of menu items that can be made Gluten Free, Vegan, or tofu based. If you’re someone who desires those kinds of specialty items, then in fairness they have a large selection to choose from. The atmosphere of the large glass windows showing off the riverside view in the dining room, combined with the pretty good service I got from a young male server, really added to...
