I recently moved to Texas and had a taste for some real authentic Indian food.
Upon google research for Indian restaurants near me, I stumble across this restaurant (Tikka Shack Indian Grub). Based on some of the reviews I was thrilled to try this restaurant out.
As a Florida native, Florida is known to be a melting pot, and I’m familiarized with all sorts of different culture dishes and know AUTHENTIC FOOD WHEN I TASTE IT.
I ordered my meal, once received, it did not look too appealing, nor did it fit the description I was expecting, keep in mind I’ve eaten authentic Indian food ample of times to know what it should look and taste like, from numerous establishments.
As I know looks can be deceiving, I decided to give it a try anyways, tasted a small portion of my food, and it was horrible, no type of real flavor at all.
I asked one of the staff can I please get a refund, because at this point, I lost my appetite and did not even want to bother with an exchange.
To my surprise the staff advised me the owner will not refund nor will she replace my meal with something else, if I wanted another meal, I would have to take my loss and reorder another meal at a discounted price, which I thought was absurd.
I asked to speak with the owner anyways.
The owner approached my table with a very unpleasant demeanor, making the atmosphere feel dense and cold.
I politely asked for a refund expressing my dissatisfaction, receiving a firm “NO” response from the owner stating there are no refund. I asked where it states one cannot get a refund as there are no signs up making this disclaimer to customers?
The owner then stated it says NO REFUND on the receipt, however a receipt was not given to me when I placed my order, therefore I asked again for a refund.
The owner then became hostile, rude, spoke in a very condescending tone making unprofessional remarks about money.
My last straw was when the owner made a very discriminatory remark uttering the words “YOU PEOPLE” are very difficult.
I asked her to elaborate what exactly did she mean by “YOU PEOPLE” being I am of AFRICAN AMERICAN DECENT.
I would not, in any way, shape or form recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food is overpriced, not authentic, and the owner is very combative. If you’re BLACK, this will not be the establishment for you!!
I know racism in its every form, with the owner’s tone, the way she spoke to me and the remark she made, she displayed some level of RACISM.
I have never in my entire existence of dining at any restaurant experienced such unprofessional & RACIST behaviors, as well as an establishment not working with me as a paying customer to rectify a situation.
NEVER IN ALL MY YEARS HAVE I SEEN A COMPANY RESPOND TO A CUSTOMERS REVIEW SO CALLOUS AND COLD!!! A GOOD BUSINESS OWNER WOULD HAVE TOOK THIS AS A LEARNING CURVE, TAKE THIS TIME TO REFLECT ON “WHAT COULD I HAVE DONE DIFFERENT” TO PREVENT SUCH OUTCOME IN THE FUTURE…. INSTEAD YOU DISREGARD MY EXPERIENCE AS A CUSTOMER AND SHIFT BLAME. YOU’RE NOTHING BUT A LIAR, MANIPULATIVE & UNPROFESSIONAL!! YOUR RESPONSE AS A BUSINESS OWNER IS VERY DISTATSEFUL, SPEAKS VOLUME AND PROVES EVERYTHING I SAID TO RING TRUE!!! YOU TOOK MY MONEY, MY FOOD, AND REFUSED TO REFUND. MY ADVICE TO YOU, INVEST AND TAKE SOME BUSINESS MANAGEMENT/CUSTOMER SERVICE CLASS ALONG WITH...
Read moreI recently visited Tikka Shake Restaurant, expecting an authentic Indian dining experience based on their menu and reviews. Upon arrival, I waited a considerable amount of time for my food, and when it finally came out, the appearance and taste were far from what I had anticipated. The quality was nowhere near what I expected from an authentic Indian restaurant.
I requested a refund due to my dissatisfaction, but the owner refused. Instead of offering a refund or replacing the meal, the owner suggested I buy a new meal with a 50% discount. However, even then, what was served didn’t match what was listed on the menu. This made the situation even more frustrating, as I felt misled by both the food and the service.
When I addressed my concerns to the owner, I was met with hostility. She was rude and dismissive, refusing to properly handle the issue. During our conversation, she made a highly inappropriate and offensive comment, referring to me as "you people."
This was shocking and upsetting, especially coming from someone in the customer service industry. As someone with a background in customer service myself, I’ve never experienced such unprofessional behavior. The owner’s demeanor and attitude were not only disrespectful but also made me feel unwelcome. Her employees seemed visibly uncomfortable, and even warned me about her behavior.
To make matters worse, after all this, I ended up leaving without a refund and without the food I had paid for. The owner refused to offer any solution beyond the discounted new meal, which didn’t match expectations either. Her unwillingness to provide even basic customer service was appalling.
After reading other reviews, I noticed that people of different backgrounds had more positive things to say about their experience. This led me to believe that the comment "you people" had deeper, more troubling implications. Unfortunately, it became clear that this establishment may not be welcoming to people of all backgrounds, particularly Black customers.
I would not recommend Tikka Shake Restaurant to anyone, especially people of color. The experience was disheartening, and I will certainly...
Read moreI’m writing this with a heavy heart after a deeply upsetting experience at Takki Shack tonight. My wife, my autistic son, and I visited the restaurant hoping for a pleasant evening. Instead, we were met with behavior that was not only unprofessional but deeply hurtful. As my wife and I were looking at the menu, our son—who was slightly overstimulated—was off to the side spinning, which is a common self-regulating behavior for him. While we were focused on ordering, we noticed three employees behind the counter laughing and giggling while looking at our son. Just as I approached to place our order, one of the women said, “That’s why I hate kids,” and made a two-handed gesture toward my son. The laughter stopped when I walked up, and one of them asked to take my order. I turned to my wife and told her what I had just witnessed. We were both shocked and decided to leave immediately. My wife went back in to address the situation, and one of the employees came outside to offer an apology. Unfortunately, the explanation—that they had been talking about kids earlier and that’s why I heard that comment—didn’t add up, especially considering the timing and the gesture directed at our son. There was no acknowledgment of the laughter or the clear mockery. As a parent, especially of a child who cannot always speak up for himself, this experience was heartbreaking. No family should have to endure ridicule or insensitivity, especially in a public space meant to be welcoming. I will not be returning to Takki Shack as long as they employ individuals who think it’s acceptable to mock children—particularly those with disabilities. I sincerely hope the management and ownership take this seriously and work to ensure their staff are trained in empathy, respect, and inclusion. Everyone deserves to be treated...
