Please go to the Coco Crepes by Rice University to have the right Coco Crepes customer service and experience. Which is outstanding! I was so sad that this Coco Crepes disappointed big time! I had been here before and it was so good. This time not so good. Inconsistency is one thing I don’t like. I took family that was in town here, showing them (my father who is a professional baker and owned a coffee shop) delicious coffee and crepes. I was so excited until the girl at the register hardly spoke English and didn’t want to give me what I was ordering even though I’ve ordered this exact same crepe the past 4 times I’ve been. She got someone to help her and didn’t have my order right at all. The second person was very kind and took our order with ease. Everything seemed to be ok until we were sitting outside where the table tops are peeling off and will stab you if you are not careful, and a staff member came up and asked who had the salmon crepe as they didn’t have caramelized onions (mind you, this was a Tuesday morning not summer time yet at 10am) Well, then we all proceeded to inform the gentleman we all had caramelized onions on our Crepes. He looked very confused and honestly had no clue what we all ordered. He was very polite though and had us all switch to a different item. Then came out our coffees. My dad asked for a little water in his americano and instead received the opposite. He said he was ok with it. I ordered my usual, a dark, raspberry mocha, and when I took a sip it didn’t taste at all like their rich mocha taste, instead it tasted like hot chocolate. When I opened the lid it looked just like my daughters chocolate milk. I went inside and the girl at the register again didn’t understand and thank goodness for the other lady who was very helpful remade the drink and brought it to me and it was the drink I’ve had all the other times I’ve been. I will say the Crepes were still amazing, aside from their outstanding caramelized onions we were all missing. And the others were very kind (which is why I still gave it 3 stars). It was just a huge bummer this place is not consistent. I hope they will get better, because the true experience and food you receive is outstanding! For now, I will be driving the 40 minutes to go to the Rice University location, especially when...

IF YOU WANT TO PAY TOP DOLLAR PRICES FOR LOW QUALITY SERVICE, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO

My family and I have supported this specific location since it has opened its doors. From coming here on coffee dates with my friends in high school, to family breakfasts, this place has been a spot in which I have made many good memories over the years. But the costumer service has ALWAYS been a different story and after what happened today, I am FINALLY about to tell you why...

They have never been the best when it comes to customer service and pleasing the costumer. I’ve watched them handle misunderstandings with us and other customers, and they just don’t seem to get it. Treating an unhappy costumer with respect, understanding and sometimes even compromising (a discount or free coffee here or there can earn you a pleased costumer who returns to give you more business🤯).

The owner was always very pleasing, but his employees were never trained on the importance of how much you can earn from simply being nice to all costumers, even the ones you do not agree with.

Today, they were more unpleasing than usual which with the number of small businesses closing just in the year of 2020 alone, I feel like you’d want to earn what you’ve lost in the prior year.

Additionally, this location now serves all food items on the CHEAPEST disposable plates and utensils. The utensils are the flimsiest disposable utensils you can find and will bend and break when attempting to eat with them. When asked for silverware, the manager absolutely refused to provide silverware, stating they didn’t have any, and instead he wanted to refund our $60 purchase. I told him I found it hard to believe that the location sold all their dining utensils, and that they just didn’t want to do this dishes. The foolish “manager” nodded and chuckled “yeah”. This is completely unacceptable considering he would rather lose a $60 purchase than clean 4 forks.

On a Sunday morning the restaurant was empty, in the past this was not so. Coco’s Crepes and Coffee, you might consider focusing on pleasing your costumers before it’s too late! Bring back your utensils or shift to a fast food...

Update:

"We're so sorry to hear about your experience. This is not up to the standard of Coco's Crepes." This is the canned response by management to every negative review, but clearly their behavior doesn't change.

Last weekend was the final straw. We will not be going back. My partner ordered "drip coffee". The easiest possible thing to serve. It literally just has to be pumped out of the thermos. But they made her wait until every other customer who ordered behind us was served before she got her coffee. Why? Because the lady took the order tickets, separated them, and started making them in random order. I was completely done with my crepe and my coffee before she got hers. We will not return. We've given this place too many chances to change.

Original Review:

I have loved this place for many years, but sadly management has let it go and is not maintaining the high bar that it used to be. There is no longer any manager on duty Sunday mornings. The oldest employee appeared to be perhaps 25. There was only a single person cooking food for the entire establishment even during rush. No other employees lent a hand. They charged a customer ahead of us for food they couldn't make and then had no way to refund her money. The poor lady waited an hour for one of the employees to reach a manager by phone and eventually gave up. Wait times for food and clean tables are far longer than they should be because employees are talking rather than working or helping each other. They've had light bulbs blinking for multiple months because they need to be replaced. The TV on the wall was missing the color green for over a year and is now just turned off entirely. The place isn't very clean, and sadly just isn't maintained anymore. I really hope new management buys them out and returns this place to its former glory. It used to be absolutely fantastic, and I...

TLDR; their sweet crepes are great, but you might want to pass on everything else. Fantastic crepe suzette! The bread pudding muffin was garbage though: undercooked in the middle, too crispy on the outside. Service was great, and indoor seating is cozy. They have more seating outside with umbrellas so you can enjoy the nice view out there. Edit: came back and got a tres leches crepe, smores crepe, and a croque monsieur. The tres leches crepe was super stuffed! Flavor of the smores crepe was super delicious! As for the croque monsieur, they don't serve it with cheese on top. Their menu says it is made with “swiss cheese, harissa aioli, dijon mustard”: the harissa aioli takes a few minutes to build up spice in your mouth and once it does it is amazing! Unfortunately there wasn't any dijon mustard on my sandwich, and the "swiss cheese" tasted more like American cheese; this ruined the sandwich and just made it taste awful. I also asked for my order to go, and it was brought out as dine in; not a big deal, but this seems to happen frequently, so bear that in mind.

Oh crepe! What a great experience. My family went for lunch. Ordered two smoothies and a Nutella crepe. Sat down at the bar and saw some savory crepes being made. Went back and ordered the chicken & avocado. Once they were about to make it, one of the servers said they were out of avocados and asked if I’d like to change my order, have it without the avocado or get a refund. I decided to pick a new one. I chose the Mediterranean and added chicken. As they were making it a gentleman asked if I still wanted the chicken avocado because they did have some. I said no I’m ok. He was so nice and said I know you wanted it and I am the owner. He was sitting next to us and when we were told about not having avocados he jumped into action. He knew they had some and not only did I get that one he gave me the Mediterranean as well. End result! Happy customer that will definitely return when we are back in the area. Thank you sir for providing great hospitality.

Went in today at 3:40pm on a Saturday and was advised by the lady working at the front that they were not taking orders? This place doesn’t close until 11pm. We weren’t offered an apology or an explanation. Left feeling upset and confused. If something was going on with the staff or kitchen equipment, a better explanation would have gone a long way. So disappointed in their customer service. Went back today 12/12/21 and gave them another chance. Service was slow but bearable. Ordered two cheesecake crepes one with coconut gelato and one with pistachio gelato. Drove home only to realize they didn’t include either of our gelatos. Husband and I were just too tired to return and make that 12 minute drive there and 12 minute drive back for just ice cream. It’s just frustrating… especially because their phone line goes straight to voicemail. Will be returning tomorrow for a refund.
