Cannot recommend this enough! It is been years since I was in East Tennessee and so my expectations weren't really high for Asian food after traveling extensively throughout Asia and the West Coast... However my best friend suggested this place and the two of us went. We ordered crab rangoon, the grouper soup, mushroom soup, and four sushi rolls. Wow. The crab rangoon was amazing which is saying something, usually it's just cream cheese but here it was delicious and flavorful and The wonton wrapping was crisp and hot. The soup was amazing flavorful and the sushi all tasted fresh and clean especially for being in a landlocked state! Try the Black Forest roll it was amazing! The only negative thing that happened was a table came in and sat next to us after we were about 30 minutes into our meal, and decided to start an argument and interject into a private conversation between two old friends with medical conditions. Let me just say the staff here was excellent at diffusing this Karen and also standing their ground in equitable treatment for both sides. Well this woman just seemed to be really intent on complaining and causing a scene while her husband who was obviously no stranger to her and this kind of behavior in public sat quietly. The staff all did their best to alleviate the situation and continue to make us feel welcome with that good old southern hospitality that I had been missing in the rest of the country. Afterwards we finished our meal they were closing and we had a wonderful evening. All in all I cannot speak highly enough about the waitress as well as the management staff. Mix that with excellent food, and you have a recipe for success! The prices, by the way, are excellent for the quality and presentation. All my best and I know my friend will be back in he usually goes pretty frequently and I will definitely return when I am back in...
Read moreI had heard really good things about this place from some friends. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt here because there were a lot of large groups there that evening but we had an awful time. I don't want to be "that" person so I'm going to try to be as objective about it as possible.
I'm pretty sure there was either confusion between the wait staff or our waitress forgot about us because they took our order and we waited for around 40 minutes to an hour before my friend had to get up and ask someone about it. In the time that we waited, an entire large table of like 6-8 people were seated and got their food before us. It was frustrating, and we considered just leaving at that point, but ultimately we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and wait for them to bring out the food after asking about it.
The food itself was not great, three out of four of us ended up not really eating ours at all because it wasn't good. The one person that did eat their food shared it with us and it was actually pretty good. It was the sweet and sour chicken, it had a great crunchy texture, but was kind of bland by itself (which is probably the point, so the sauce is the focus); the sauce provided with it was good. I give that specific dish 4/5 stars. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt here too because it was fairly busy that night with the large groups there, but we still had a bad experience.
We ended up having to go up and ask for the check too, but at that point we were frustrated, impatient, and just wanted to leave. They comped us 50% on our bill which I thought was reasonable.
Overall, I think this place is decent and we just got unlucky or something. The whole time my friend insisted that this wasn't how things normally are like here and they had a great experience the last time they went. I hope the service is better on less...
Read moreThe absolute BEST Chinese I've had in the Johnson City area. Definitely worth driving a little further to Gray. I have so many good things to say about this restaurant. It's very clean. I LOVE the fact that the restaurant plays Chinese music. Music really affects the ambience in a restaurant in my opinion. I dont like hearing country music or 98.5 while I'm eating General Tso Chicken. They go above and beyond here...1.Real chopsticks, not cheap disposables. 2.They bring the dumplings in a beautiful steam basket. 3. Their chicken that they use in the Lo Mein and Fried rice dishes is like this delicious charcoal grilled flavor, among the other traditional flavors. It's amazing! Everything we had tasted top quality and fresh. Many Chinese places seem just like all the same. Like someone handed out recipes to every person wanting to start a Chinese restaurant business. But here, they seem to really take pride in the uniqueness of their flavor. 4. The waitress was so so nice and really helped me decide what to get, which I always appreciate when going somewhere new bc I'm so indecisive. 5. Even their fortune cookies tasted on a higher quality level than any others I've had!
Anyway, to sum it up. Best Chinese ! 5 stars for flavor, ambience, and...
