What a joke. This was strike 4. Hopefully the absolute last strike. Reservation was made for 6pm. Was seated right away, so we thought it was going to go well. The waitress came over a short time after. I ordered a Rootbeer and my husband ordered a Mountain Dew. His came with ice and mine had none. The waitress took our order and then disappeared. We waited a half-hour for the soup and salads to arrive. When low and behold, the waitress came to our table empty handed. The excuse we got was the order was put in, but somehow it got lost🤬😡. So the waitress took our order again. We then got salads and soup right away. The salad was great, the soup on the other hand was terrible. I had ordered the broccoli and cheese soup, which was so salty that I only had a couple of spoonfuls and didn't eat any more of it. I did let the waitress know that I didn't like it. She offered me the option of something else (as she was walking away), but didn't take it off the bill either. Another half-hour went by, and we finally received our food. My husband ordered a burger, was supposed to be cooked medium, instead came rare. I ordered a half rack of ribs. The ribs and my potato were excellent. But during the meal, the waitress never refilled our drinks, never came back and checked to see how anything was. She didn't even bring us our food, someone else brought it out to us. The next time we saw her was 15 minutes after we had finished eating with boxes (in case we needed them). She had asked if we wanted anything else, and we declined. We had already been there for 2 hours. I did notice as well another waitress at another table call the broccoli cheese soup, cheesy vegetable lol. Also noticed our waitress mess up an order at a table next to us. Needless to say, if I'm going to pay $102.88 for 3 people, I expect excellent service and the kitchen to be better organized. So I don't feel one bit bad about the 2% tip I gave, because that's how I felt like we were treated. I stood at the hostess counter to talk to the manager about the experience. All she did was apologize for the experience. Was not offered anything for the awful service. More than likely will never go back. Should not be in a restaurant 2 1/2 hours for a meal, and the prices for what we ordered are ridiculous. Good luck if you have unlimited time and have...
Read moreI travel three or four times a year to the area and have been doing so for the past 15+ years. Since the very first time that I started travelling to the area, I have stopped at Hi-way Harry's at least once each time for dinner and always found the food, drinks and service to be amazing.
That said, in the process of looking at the menu online before my most recent trip this past week, I decided to check out the Google reviews and noticed a distinct shift that began about six months ago from 3+ stars to mostly 1 or 2 stars. Knowing that often times bad reviews are more prevalent than good ones, I decided to give the recent bad reviews little credence and decided that I would once again go to my favorite eatery in Johnson Creek. That was a mistake.
I also noticed on the webpage that they use a picture of the bartender (Michelle) who hasn't worked there in a couple of years - and who BTW was amazing. I watched her serve a full bar all by herself along with making drinks for the waitresses serving tables (and never skipped a beat).
The drinks that I ordered were fine. I ordered the Sirloin medium-rare and a baked potato with a house salad. The salad came and it was also fine. When I was served my food, I received a medium done ribeye and a loaded baked potato. Some might say that I got a free upgrade, but the ribeye was fatty, barely warm & overdone for my taste and I do not like all the stuff they put on a loaded baked potato. I brought this to the attention of my server, and she brought me a normal baked potato and, as doing so asked if I was alright with the ribeye instead of the sirloin. At that point, I wasn't going to turn it into a big production but had already made up my mind that I was going to pay closer attention to the reviews and likely not return until I saw a shift for the better. This was with only six or seven people at the bar and two groups of four and one group of six sitting at tables - I would be more understanding if the place was bustling like it was in the past. Overall, not a very good experience. I used to recommend this place all of the time to others that I knew would be travelling to the area and bring coworkers with me when I was there so they too could enjoy the food and ambience - not again. What a shame. (Oh, and the exterior could use a bit of...
Read moreWe came in at about noon. Our server was so kind and sweet. She did a great job and deserves a raise for serving the stuff they call food. This is definitely not a finer dining place. The appetizers took over a half an hour to come out. The mozzarella sticks were soft and not hot at all. This would become a theme to our food. The croquettes were decent but definitely better with the sauce. Our food took another 45 minutes to come out. My son in laws food was missing in action. We didn't get it until everyone else was finished and I sent my food back. It wouldn't be a big deal but there were tables sat before us who got served about 30 minutes before our food came out. We were there from noon to 1:30 with most of the time waiting on food that was definitely not worth waiting for. There were only five people in our table and we all got breakfast food which should be the fastest to cook. The crab benedict was a no go since they were out. Which happens. No biggie. Two people got the strawberry crepes. The strawberry filling was obviously from a can. The food was warm at best. Definitely not hot. My father and I got the southern breakfast. My eggs were cold as if they'd been sitting in a cooler. Actually cold to the touch. The potatoes felt the same. The only thing slightly warm was the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was obviously from a can and the biscuits were definitely frozen and reheated. I've never sent food back in my life but as 3/4 of the food was so cold it was inedible, I did. My dad, who eats everything, finished his. I honestly don't know how he did it. It's obvious what's happened. The front of house is stacked. The back of house is lacking. They either microwave things and forgot to microwave my food or it sat on a shelf by a refrigerator for a long time as there's no way that food should be cold to the touch. Highway Harrys used to have decent-ish food and a nice buffet. The past couple times we've been it's been experiences similar to this. My parents are creatures of habit who continue to go there but I'm never going back. Stop making your FOH heavy and hiring terrible cooks. Spend some money, hire decent cooks, and you'll have customers again. Having a dining room 1/4 full at a breakfast place after church services should be a sign it's time to...
