While the service was good, I felt that the main courses could use some work. Everything was overly salty or bitter. But I do have to say that the desserts are fantastic.
First of all, the service. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive to our needs. Even though she was serving multiple tables around the whole restaurant (and outside), I never felt abandoned by her. She was also knowledgeable and accommodating.
I got the Veal Milanese, which was cooked too much (but not burnt). Its pairing with arugula and parmigiano-reggiano made everything so bitter and salty, since there was no sweetness in anything except the few tomatoes from the greens. It didn't help that the salty Veal had lemon on it. My companion, who had the chicken parm, had a similar reaction about the salt. Hers had sauce on it, which was decently prepared but had no basil and lacked good flavor.
The real star of the show were the desserts. I had an affogato (espresso and gelato) and my companion had a tiramisu. Both were fantastic, I have to say. The espresso was very good and the gelato had a nice vanilla flavor. The tiramisu was wonderfully assembled with good cream, espresso powder, and light chocolate notes. Everything was wonderfully balanced and had good flavor.
I think that a person who is easygoing with their eating preferences will enjoy this place. But those with higher standards will have a tough time enjoying the...
Read moreDined at Johnston location Friday with my sister. I ordered the salmon with pink vodka sauce over pasta. The salmon was in small pieces and 90% fat. I’ve never had salmon so fatty in my life. The first piece I ate I wasn’t sure what it was. I thought it was a blown out piece of mushy pasta. The second one was just as fatty and I realized that was the salmon. After that I had to inspect each piece and try to remove the fat and salvage the salmon which was less than the fat I was removing. I didn’t complain but now I wish I did because when I got home I was severely sick from eating this dish. I woke up with the absolute worst acid reflux that felt like my throat was on fire. I never get acid reflux and I tried everything to get rid of it tums, milk, crackers. Nothing helped. I was sick the whole next day. I couldn’t eat and so uncomfortable with this acid in my throat the whole next day so bad it was painful. I had plans to go out the following night that I had to cancel due to being so sick from that dinner. I’m not sure if I had food poisoning but I’ve never been so sick from eating out in my life. Please don’t serve that awful salmon to anyone else in the future. I don’t wish this terrible burning throat and stomach on my...
Read moreThis place is absolutely beautiful inside. It was my first time here. I was floored with how beautifully it was decorated. That’s where the positive ended. We sat at the bar. There were only 2 other people at the bar when we first sat. A very sweet blonde girl with glasses greeted us and served our first round. She was personable and helpful. After that I’m assuming she was cut. We had a gruff inhospitable bartender after that. He worked service bar and took care of tables all while neglecting us at the bar. I asked about gluten free options and he informed me “that’s difficult here.” We were left without waters and with empty drinks wondering how, as the only people at the bar we were getting such horrible service. The gluten free chicken Marsala was flavorless and tough. I told him we were on a time constraint and he was super snarky and put the bill down “because you’re in such a rush.” I should have just waited to eat elsewhere. If the bartender had been the least bit apologetic or humble it would have been better. He was snooty and his delivery was awful. I have lived and dined all over the country and I will never eat here...
