Billy Sims BBQ — Restaurant in Joplin

I've been a regular since moving from Florida to Missouri (first at the Springfield location, then Joplin's). I can only speak of the ribs, since that's the only thing I order for my family gatherings and office parties. Here's the thing. Billy Sim's BBQ ribs are good, but what's important to me is that they CONSISTENTLY good. It's important since BBQ seems to be hit or miss at most restaurants. So I was disappointed when I brought home a slab of ribs that were so dried out (oddly, the green beans were too) that we trashed them. The next week, I dropped in and talked to a manager named Angel who was professional and courteous. She explained that they were training some new employees and mistakes had been made (understandably). She offered a comp replacement but since I was heading out of town, she then gave me a signed comp receipt for another time. But when I tried to use this Sunday, it was rejected because I was told it had to be used within a week. Now this rule is reasonable IF I had been told. We didn't make a fuss and dined elsewhere. For me, the wasn't about the $27. The comp meal was a way for them to prove that it was a one time mistake and their meals are CONSISTANTLY good. My family...

I never really write reviews but I just wanted other people to know. I made an online order around 1:20ish and it said it’d be ready in 19 minutes. I arrived there at around 1:36. When I got to the window the girl working seemed annoyed and told me they were out of cooked potatoes and I would have to do something else which was fine. She walked away and I picked something else and probably waited at least 10 minutes before anyone came back. Another lady (long hair, super sweet) came to the window and let me order the substitute with her. I waited at least another 15 minutes for my order and when I checked the bag there were things missing. After waiting at minimum 30-40 minutes in the drive thru. And then when we had gotten home, there was no sauce on anything, no silverware. And I still haven’t been refunded for the item they couldn’t make. This was my first visit to Billy Sims BBQ, and it definitely won’t be my last! Prices are a bit high, but I’ve been craving barbecue, and they delivered. The chopped brisket was the star—tender, full of flavor, and perfectly textured. I paired it with Billy’s BBQ beans, which were just as rich and savory, and added some broccoli at home for balance (surprisingly, it made the broccoli taste better too!).

The sliced brisket, which was lean, didn’t quite have the same depth of flavor as the chopped version, but that’s likely because it lacked the fatty richness that makes brisket shine. For dessert, I tried the cherry stacker, and it was absolutely fantastic—a sweet way to end the meal.

On top of the great food, the staff was warm, welcoming, and friendly. All in all, an excellent experience that has me already looking forward to my next visit! And as a bonus, they are located next to Tropical Smoothie Cafe, my favorite place to...
