OMGosh! This is the most amazing food I’ve had in Junction City since we got stationed at Ft Riley 3 years ago.
Let’s talk about it.
The word for the day for this establishment is “Perfect!”, because you may hear me say it a lot. I’m going to save the food for last because it’s the best part…
LOCATION: If you’re looking for them, they are in the beautiful black food truck with the peaches all over it, sitting right between Walmart and the new Navy Federal CU on Chestnut. You can’t miss them.
ATMOSPHERE: There’s a nice patch of artificial turf in front that somehow completes the look. There are also three bar stools for you to take a seat to wait for your food to be made fresh. If the bar stools are full, (like they were the first time I went), you can do just like I did and park at the end of the Walmart parking lot and sit in your car and wait. When you order your food you will be entertained by one of the two TV screens mounted outside of the truck that play a mixed variety of music and videos, while you wait. I love the ordering system for two reasons…
It’s on the TV screen so they can update the menu with the stroke of a key.
Because it’s electronic, it’s eco-friendly so there’s no paper waste. Which was probably thoughtfully done because I’m sure it saves on the cost of reprinting menus.
I love that the menu isn’t too complex with a lot of options. I’d rather have a place that offers a small selection that they’ve perfected than too many options that we, the patrons take a loss in quality or taste. But keep in mind, just because there isn’t this grand menu, it doesn’t mean you can’t mix and match to make many, many, combinations from what they offer.
SERVICE: One thing I love about any food establishment is professionalism and uniformity. The two gentlemen taking the orders were both in highlighter yellow uniform shirts. (My favorite color btw)
I know a lot of places have gotten away from that and that’s ok, but it definitely added to the already perfect vibe here at “2 Peaches”. The young men were helpful in answering questions I had. The Chef inside the truck has the most amazing story about his journey. I really enjoyed speaking to him while I waited for my food to get ready.
PRICE POINT: Some people may think that the food is too expensive, however I think it’s perfect for the quality/ freshness of ingredients, Taste and the portion size. My husband and I shared the fish plate because the filets are so big!
Now on to the best part…. The food!
FOOD: I’ve been here twice in two days because everything is so good, I had to come back to try something different.
The first day we got the two fish filets with hush puppies and candied Yams. The fish was fried to perfection for me, and I’m sure that’s because the chef came out and asked me to tell him how I like my fried (hard or soft). I chose crispy. The hush puppies didn’t stand a chance with my toddler so I didn’t get to try those but for her picky self to eat them all, that means they were delicious because there isn’t much that she will eat. Now, those candied yams!!!! Oh my oh my! The caramelization from the mixture of the brown sugar, and whatever else he uses to cook them, took me back to my Big Mama’s Sunday dinners. If you’re looking for a delicious food experience, stop by “2 Peaches” food truck on Chestnut. You can...
Read moreI was very excited to try this place, especially when I found out they were from Atlanta. Although after eating the food they should not be allowed to represent Georgians. The shrimp and grits looked amazing, under closer inspection the whole shell was left on the shrimp. Growing up in the Deep South and eating seafood before I could ever even walk I have never been served shrimp n grits shell on, and I mean the whole shell not just the tail. I mentioned to the server that the shrimp was not peeled and he said they keep the shell on to preserve any flavor and holds more seasoning. It did not hold any more flavoring, and I’ve never heard that unless it involves making a broth, which the shells are taken out of after cooking. He also stated you have to request the shrimp to be peeled when ordering, although while we were ordering he didn’t present that option nor was it stated on the menu. My hands became very messy from having to pick shrimp out of steaming hot grits - it was not a pleasant experience. The hush puppies were hard and were cooked for too long, not a nice fluffy light brown, the outside was very dark and it was hard to chew, very dry. Sweet tea tasted stale and not freshly made. I was excited to feel like I was back at home, but unfortunately felt like I was at someone’s house who was just learning to cook southern food. The flies flying around me constantly did make me feel like I was in Georgia eating outside, I understand why so many people were getting food to go. If you’re from the south I do not...
Read moreCalled in an order for take out. First time trying the food. Ordered the 12 piece wings half Jamaican Jerk and half peach habanero (comes with side of fries) with an additional side of rice and gravy. Person in the phone was pleasant to talk to even if the connection wasn’t great (probably my phone). Told 35-40 mins. Got to the store at 35 mins and the place looked great! Super clean and put together.
The staff was very friendly and even apologized for whatever was happening on the phone. The food Looked fantastic. The owner I assume rang me up and was very friendly. They made sure I had everything I wanted and were very quick with check out.
Got the food home and it was amazing. The flavors caught me off guard as I was expecting regular level of fast food spice. Both were spicy, but not unbearably hot. The breading was perfect and not overly done. Be warned if you think mayonnaise is spicy to get a different flavors. I was sweating under my eyes when I got done. Which was perfectly fine for me. The fries were soggy, but that happens when they are fresh and in a box. Still really good crinkle fries with spices on them. The wife tried the rice and gravy and found it just wasn’t our thing. Nothing wrong, but not a combo for us.
Overall I think this is a fantastic place to eat. We will be coming back and trying...
