Restaurant was a HUGE disappointment. We paid $19 for a Luke warm, half cup of chili and a salad, consisting of two ripped up leaves of romaine and some garnish. The chili did not come out with our meal and we had to ask for it, a waiter rushed over with it as we were asking, quickly sliding the chili on our table and ran away. When we looked and saw a nearly empty bowl, which we thought must be a mistake, we took the bowl back to a server to which they shrugged their shoulders and said that is what we serve..... We then realized we were only given a fork and knife and spent another few minutes chasing someone down to get a spoon to eat the chili. Chili was hardly edible, luke warm, bland and runny. We also ordered a burger/fries and a beer. Burger was okay, tasted like a frozen Costco burger, nothing special. Beer was the best part of the meal. Staff were straight faced and not friendly or engaging whatsoever. Asking them a question seemed like an inconvenience to them. I initially took this as 'they are busy' however the place quickly cleared out as we sat there and the vibe did not improve. While we would definately chose to go on the Tram again a visit to this restaurant will be avoided in the future. A huge waste of money where better food/portions (for a similar or better price) can be...
Read moreA restaurant on top of a tram lift ride - expectations must be clearly set. This is not McDonald's nor is it Ruth Chris steakhouse. Food is brought up in the tram. The staff is brought up daily in the tram. Farm to table this is not.
What it is must be explained by the staff and their positive attitude. They deal with a tourist crowd, and a tourist crowd only. That is a tough assignment. Drinks are seasonal to match the weather. Food is simple - burgers, fries, soup, etc. What they lack in cuisine they make up for true effort and warmth.
The weather matched our September expectations and the mist and rain was overcome by a nice hot toddy and a margarita for my wife. The staff was energetic for the last two weeks.of their season. They chatted and talked about their experiences. It was comfortable and soothing.
Take the tram and set aside 45 minutes for a drink and a snack. More expensive than normal, but given the location it was anticipated. No surprises.
I would strongly suggest you take the trail hike before...
Read moreFor those who are wanting a great bird's-eye view of the city, you can't get any better than atop this mountain. However, with a $49 price tag for using the gondola, it was certainly not worth that much, only because I didn't eat at the restaurant, and the vast majority of the items at the gift shop were very over-priced. Of course, this is to be expected at any tourist trap. There is a trail that supposedly leads down to the bottom, but I didn't have the time nor the endurance to take that hike. I will say that the tram operator was super friendly and welcoming. His intro was comical, and he explained that he was actually the mechanic, but he was asked to be the operator due to a lack of workers. (Was that part of the humour, maybe?) Depending on the time of day, you could either get a clear view, or a cloudy view. Because of the height of the mountain, the top is usually above...
