Alaska Whale Watch — Local services in Juneau

We had a wonderful experience, especially after it got off to an unexpected rocky start that could have turned out very disastrous and disappointing, but to the absolute credit and respect of the manager or owner (not sure of her exact title) Summer, she stepped up and made it right in every way possible. I can’t thank Summer enough for going above and beyond to do the right thing in a situation that was unfortunate at first, but in the end turned out fantastic and a truly wonderful and memorable day. Summer showed how to run an operation and show true hospitality to customers in a moment that wasn’t in any way her fault at all. I truly believe that what matters in a business is not what goes wrong, because that is inevitable and that is going to happen, it is how you handle it, and she showed exactly how to be a leader and master at customer service and grace. Thanks to Summer we had a great day after all and got to see the one and only goal of seeing whales on our trip in the end. The glacier tour was nice and beautiful. The weather and waters were rough, but we had absolute experts at the hands of Captain Jay and his right hand helper Rio onboard the boat to guide us over the very rough waters and straight to an amazing whale watching experience. Captain Jay was so skilled and nice and determined to give everyone the experience they came for. Rio was obviously very passionate about whales and his knowledge and expertise came through in his teachings. They made sure everyone were safe and taken care of from start to finish. We booked Dolphin Jet Boat Tours for a Mendenhall Glacier and a whale watching tour. Everything went as planned to locate the group and get on the shuttle. The Charlie took good care of us during the trip. First we went to Mendenhall Glacier and we had an hour to walk around the trails and the park. We checked out the visitors center which was pretty cool. It was very busy there but there was plenty of opportunities for photos. If there is a next time I would have booked a longer time. There is a waterfall called Nugget Falls and the hike to and from takes more time than we had there per the driver. But this was a great experience.

Then we got shuttled down to a marine for the whale watching tour. Captain Perry was great, he put us on the whales, was friendly and had a great sense of humor, a pleasure to be around. And our Naturalist Nia was so fantastic. She had a great personality, was super informative and you can tell she absolutely loves what she is doing, many thanks to them for making this trip...

FIVE STARS for the boat part of this tour: Our captain and tour guide were phenomenal!! They guided us to the whales, and helped all of us see and take photos of them. Everyone had an excellent experience!! Highly recommend, and would absolutely do again!!

TWO STARS for the “land” portion of the trip. We had a hard deadline for our cruise departure, and we made sure William, our driver, knew this at the beginning of the day. He said it wouldn’t be a problem, he could get us back in “plenty” of time. After our whale watching cruise, we came back to no driver. No bus, nothing. Tried calling, no answer. Finally another driver from the same company happened upon us in our distress, and took us back to the pier. We never heard from William about what happened, but if it hadn’t been for the other driver, we may have missed our cruise departure.

We would absolutely do the boat portion of this trip again. Unfortunately, the land portion has clouded over the excellent...
