The sun had disappeared in the horizon and left a rosy glow in the evening sky while we had gone to West Main in Kalamazoo for burgers but found our destination closed for Monday. We headed over to the WMU campus area after a quick check-in with Yelp and tried our luck at The Old Goat Tavern. And luck was with us! We do not frequent campus regularly and although the Old Goat has been around for several years and it was not on our radar. OG is exactly a modern tavern: Lots of wood, steel, glass with a long bar and surround TV screens with tons of sports. Our server was very helpful explaining the menu and food options that are available. We liked the idea of being to order the number of smash burger patties for the burger option. There was a lot available from the menu and we ordered The Goat (SB) with a side of Truffle fries. My SO ordered her burger as a you-build with reg. fries. My, oh my, good food in a bounty! The BEST bacon jam we have ever tasted. The burgers were grilled juicy and well seasoned. The buns were the best size for the sandwich. I had bacon jam and burger juice dripping into my basket and I mopped up the delicious mess with my bun with delight. The Truffle fries were hot and crisp (not greasy) and tasty with garlic aioli. We'll be back!

Since I was in town for only a couple of days on business, I had called ahead, confirming they had karaoke on Tuesday nights, which they do. Got there a little early to check out the crowd and have a drink. Calista was the bartender that night. I asked her about bucket specials and she recommended the margarita bucket (pitcher) and it was great perfectly paired with the $.75 tacos that night. Calista was attentive, checking on me several times throughout the night. Everything you want in a good bartender. When karaoke started, I’m at Finn the KJ. He kept the crowd involved and the singers in rotation moving. It was a good mix of young and old in the crowd, and it was quite interactive. I would highly recommend this local place to anyone. Especially on Tuesdays with their tacos that can’t be beaten for $.75. Pro tip: you can request corn salsa with your tacos.

Old Goat is an awesome Kalamazoo restaurant. The walls are covered with televisions. It has a very laid back, relaxed atmosphere. They are located on the campus of Western Michigan University. They have a great happy hour and daily specials. The menu has a long list of great burger options, or you can build your own like I did with blue cheese, jalapeno cream cheese, bacon and an over easy egg. The menu has a great selection of appetizers, sides and salads too. The standard burgers are triples because the patties are only two ounces. Next visit I think I need to move up from a triple to a quint!! If you live in the Kalamazoo area or plan to visit, put Old Goat Tavern on your to do list.

I’m 2019 when it happen I didn’t leave a review but since this was the second time I am stating my experience from February of 2023. Every time I have ate here (twice) I got violently sick and threw up. The sauce they offer clearly has a mayo base and I don’t think it’s being stored at proper temperatures. I thought the first time it might just have been me and since there is no Smashburger here I caved when I was craving truffle fries and tried them again. Big mistake. Makes me want to dispute the charges as the truffle fries start @ $8. Also if you order pick up they tell you a time you’re food will be done but it’s either done before or after so your food temp varies.

Went here while dropping our daughter off to college. We ordered some burgers and kids meals, food was good. My daughter had the Moo Oink & Quack which is a Buffalo chicken between two thin hamburger patties; tasty, not spicy. I had the the Spicy Goat burger which is two thin hamburger patties and a jalapeño cream cheese; this too was good, my daughter and I didn’t think it was very spicy. My wife had the egg burger which was good. Our other kids ordered some kids meals and they like me them too. Service was a little slow but we weren’t in a hurry so it didn’t bother us; the server did forget some things like a drink that we ended up canceling as we were all done.

Best burger I had in a while. Reason is that size is big, they don't skim on ingredients. Burger is not supposed to be tiny especially from a tavern. My burger has layers of cheese and meat and sauce. Mouth full of goodness. Also my "back forty" burger is only $13. Pretty good deal in 2024. Sides are extra though Sides are not so much, just taste like they are from the freezer and straight into the fryer. Burger is the main character anyway. Drinks are weak, you can probably down a couple mix drinks and still blow below limit. With that being said, this is still a better place to eat and watch a game than BWW.
