My boyfriend and I have been to Saketome 3 times. The first time we went, it was for our first date, and we were seated at a small table next to the restroom. (My bf is 6'3" and could barely squeeze into the chair) As soon as we finished the server asked if we we're leaving because there were people waiting. (Rude) My bf still talks about that. The next time we were brought back to that same small table. So we asked for a different one. We were seated at another small table sandwiched in between people. Trying one more time...Last night, because I knew my bf had made a reservation for his birthday, I messaged the restaurant ahead of time and asked if we could have a nice table for this special occasion. I was told "I will see what I can do. Most of our bigger tables are reserved for 4 tops but I will check and see if I can make that work. We will do our best to get you at a table that fits you." However, when we arrived we were told they'd HAD a bigger table for us but gave it away to another group "who also had a reservation" And had prepared that - same small table by the bathroom! I told them that it was unacceptable, that we too had made a reservation and had taken the time to ask in advance for a different table. The hostess was somewhat apologetic but basically said that they reserve bigger tables for 4 or more. After standing by the door waiting for people to finish eating, we ended up at a small table in between people again. No mention was made about his birthday and no offer to make things right. The food was okay and our server was pleasant. But due to the lack of effort on the restaurant's part, it tainted our experience. There are other sushi restaurants in the valley besides Saketome. The one in Whitefish will even sprinkle sparkles on the table for someone's birthday! Saketome won't get our...
Read moreWent to make a reservation and I have been going to this restaurant since it opened, I was asked to give my credit card information over the phone so that if I didn’t show I would get charged $10 per person. I had no problem with the charge. I had no plans of not showing up. I didn’t feel safe leaving my card information over the phone to be written down and who knows how it would be disposed of. I said I didn’t feel safe about it and I would feel more comfortable if there was a way to do it online. The girl stated that this was the policy. I gave my card information and stated that I would address my concerns to the owner. I wasn’t mad. If I was I wouldn’t have given my information over the phone and I wouldn’t have made a reservation. I got back to work and received a call and message from them saying my reservation was not saved and my card number was not valid. I called back 6 times and got no answer. I finally got an answer and it was management who then proceeded to go off on me for being rude to her staff. I said at no point was I rude, I simply was expressing that the policy felt unsafe. She told me that just because I knew the owner meant nothing to her and dropping his name was a sure way to get me 86ed from the restaurant. I then gave her my card information and told her she may not speak to me in that way because I was rude to no one. She then hung up on me. I told my friend from out of town who hadn’t been there what happened and we decided to cancel the reservation and go to Whitefish for sushi instead. This makes me so sad because I have been spending lots of money in this establishment for years and years now. I will not be going back. There are lots of other places to eat. Places where they don’t comprise your credit card information and they don’t treat you like trash for...
Read moreWent here tonight for a group dinner/birthday party. I ordered the Butterfish sashimi, which was actually quite good, but am pretty sure it was not black cod, which is what butterfish typically is. I also ordered the "I Love You Man" roll. It was just ok. The tempura was a bit soft and the shrimp had already cooled off, like it had been sitting for a while. It was a bit of a wait for the food, I think partially due to how big the table was, but I think the food sat just so they could bring out giant plates of multiple rolls at the same time. It was served in a way that implied family style, but we indicated that we did not want it that way initially. We had already waited a bit, so I didn't want to wait again for new food.
As I stated before, the food was just ok. I tried a couple other people's rolls, and honestly, all the rolls kind of tasted the same, which was weird when the ingredients were so different.
Oh, and the fried crispy leeks on top? Don't put those on, guys. It's bitter, dry, and off-putting.
Service seemed to be from some sort of manager, so that was a pretty good experience from that front.
This was my first time here, and the atmosphere was a bit confusing, but seemed to lean more into the younger crowd, which is fine, but when your staff who's making your food is taking shots with patrons at the sushi counter, I think your problems run deep. I've eaten at many sushi restaurants on the West Coast, and there's definite room for improvement here. I'm hoping this wasn't my last trip here, but with what I experienced, I'm thinking it might be unless some...
