We've been coming to Brick House at least once a week for over a year now, and there's always been some bumps along the road, but never anything too serious. My entire household all worked as servers for about twenty combined years, so we get it. But this last Thursday has turned into one of the most frustrating restaurant/bar experiences I've ever had.
A buddy and I rolled in around 8:30 and sat at a table. My buddy had sat at a table that hadn't been cleaned off yet(which is definitely his fault, not the servers. Everyone knows that's a cardinal sin). I understand that in cases like that occasionally a server might not realize you are a new table. But we waited 22 minutes to even get greeted. We didn't ever get waters, which wouldn't matter if we hadn't specially asked for them. My friend had a burger(always fire) but it came out wrong, which we also normally just deal with but it's becoming a recurring issue.
The service is starting to become an issue. The food is always great. The menu options are great. Some servers work really hard and are great. Some are downright lazy. The bartenders blatantly prefer to serve their friends first rather than a first come, first serve situation. I've waited 10 minutes for my first drink while sitting at the bar, and that's pretty absurd.
But, I wasn't ever going to leave a review until I came back later that night.
It was super crowded, which would be expected since you have a live DJ on Thursdays. I had a well whiskey shot and a well vodka soda and sat outside. When it was time to leave it was taking too long to get to the bar to close my tab(mostly due to the crowd, not the bartender) so I just left knowing I would be charged the 20% or 25% fee for leaving it open. When I opened my bank account today I had been charged $36. That either means the bartenders were inattentive as to who was putting what drinks on what tab or the bartender left themselves a very healthy tip.
As I said, having been in the industry, I get that sometimes you're out in the weeds because you're so busy or you forget that someone wanted Swiss instead of American on their burger. But, being charged $36 unexpectedly is completely...
Read moreMeh... My girlfriend and I stopped in to use our Pub Pass and have dinner. The restaurant was busy, but there was a table that just opened up. An employee quickly cleaned it off for us (not our eventual server). That was great. It took a while for a server to come to our table. We inquired about which beers are included in the Pub Pass offer. He told us "draft beers" and walked away. There was no draft beer list on the table, but we could kind of see the chalk board across the bar. Most of the drafts were simply listed as the brewery name - not the actual beers. When the server returned, we asked about which beers were on tap from all of these breweries. Our server told us, "I'm not really sure. I don't bartend." I simply ordered whatever the Double Shift beer they had on tap and I asked him to let me know what it was when he brought it to me. My girlfriend told him she liked darker beers, but mentioned that she drinks KC Bier Co. Dunkel all the time. After hearing that, he walked away and came back a few minutes later with a beer for me and a Dunkel for my girlfriend - Which she didn't actually order. She was trying to be polite, hoping he would get the hint that he needed to go find out which beers were on tap. I asked which beer he gave me. He replied, "I don't know. I figured you would just taste it." With this terrible service, we decided not to have dinner. However, trying not to be rude, we ordered a quesadilla. The quesadilla came out quickly, but it was pretty small (it wasn't expensive, though, so the size fit the price) and really greasy - that was the problem. We got our check when the quesadilla arrived, ate quickly, paid and left. I'm not saying we won't give Brick House KC another shot, but I've NEVER had and experience where a server did not know the available beers AND refused to...
