Corner Cafe - Liberty — Restaurant in Kansas City

Sadly, my last two visits, which have been take out orders have been disappointing. First order was attempting to call for thirty minutes only to get a busy signal. Finished my commute, zero phone contact, walked in and ordered. Asked the clerk about the phone situation and she stated they were busy and wasn’t answering, I completely understand that.

Second, ordered a large family breakfast, via phone, curb side pickup , was told it would be approximately 20 minutes. Arrived, phoned in to let them know about our arrival and which number we were. Was put on hold for over 3.5 minutes before I walked in. Spoke to the clerk behind the counter who stated the order wasn’t ready yet. I sat in the lobby for an additional 25 minutes to find out my order had not even been entered. The manager blew it off by stating that he could resubmit the order I could continue to wait, another 20 minutes, I have already wasted 40 minutes of my morning.

I have no problem with the clerk, cooks, wait staff, I have a problem with the lack of management/leadership. There should be at least two people working in the pickup order spot. For the twenty minutes I sat there observing a very overwhelmed employee drown in call in orders that weren’t getting answered. Frustrated customers not getting quality service that this location is known for. One person certainly can’t answer orders, pass orders, ring people out, sell bakery items and keep up. When seated we got a dirty table I said something and the waiter wiped the table down but was still sticky. I think it had maple syrup spilled on it. As after the waiter wiped it was only sticky in spots... I got the open face turkey sandwich with mash potatoes in the middle and gravy over the top.with a side of fries topped with gravy. They first didn't get my order right.. no mash potatoes.. they got them right away once I pointed it out. I like beef gray (brown gravy). The gravy was very runny and overly salted... the waiter did a decent job of checking back to get refills on drinks. It wasn't overly noisy... gravy killed the meal.. it needs to be on piont for this dish to be good.. some potato starch or floor and a little bit of pepper with beef that has been blended to fine pieces.. with half to no the salt...

Edit aug-7-2023 owner asked for contact info in the review response. I sent a email where I could be contacted at.... no response...and I checked the spam folder...took a star from service.

Edit aug-8-2023 Owner emailed me I called them they wanted to make my visit right as they knew they could do better. I told them i don't get to Kansas city very often I was there on a special visit. I'm going to put service at 4 stars as most places don't care.. if I can get back that way I will order the same thing and then I will change the food rating at that time...

I visited the cafe with my wife today morning. We ordered garden omelette and spinach & artichoke omelet. We let the waitress know specifically that we are vegetarian. Once the order arrived the wife got her Spinach & artichoke omelet and I got my order.

My garden omelette turned out to be ham and cheese omelet. Now this is where it’s very disappointing. My faith condemns and admonishes on consuming pork. We called the waitress and let her know what is the issue. She said I ordered ham and a cheese. I said no, ordered garden omelette. Took the food awake insisting I ordered ham and cheese. Then she came back and showed me that the ticket did say garden omelet and blamed others for pulling the wrong food for her.

Instead of accepting her mistake she blamed it on others and casually apologized. The manager stepped in and made thing right.

I am very hurt for having been served ham and cheese where as I had said we are vegetarian. My faith and beliefs were hurt. No attempts made to verify the right food is being served.

Error proofing needs to be ensured for customers like myself who have dietary restrictions. Food served to someone with food allergies could have been a big disaster today.

Not visiting again. Extremely hurt and disappointed. Been to other restaurants and they always check and catch such concerns before I dig in.
