Oh my! I have been reading a lot about the new Jerusalem Café that has opened in Liberty recently. So, tonight I made a little jaunt over there to try it out, and I’m glad I did. To avoid the rush, I got there around 4:20. I was seated by a very friendly waitress and offered a menu, which I looked over very carefully. It didn’t take me long to decide.
For an appetizer, I went with Falafel, a mixture of chickpeas, parsley, garlic, onions and spices. Made into patties then deep fried. Garnished with tomatoes and onions and served with pita bread and a side of tahini sauce.
For the entrée. I chose The Lamb Pastry Plate; lamb will always catch my eye. I just love lamb and in my humble opinion not enough restaurants serve it. They take lamb meat marinate it and cook it with fresh vegetables then wrapped it in phyllo pastry and baked to a Golden Crisp serve it with rice and roasted vegetables.
Mediterranean food is somewhat new to me and this was my first-time eating Falafel. Piping hot and crunchy, almost a bit hard on the outside, and creamy smooth on the inside, it was a delicious combination of flavors. The pita bread was warm fresh. It was a very tasty way to start a meal.
The Lamb Pastry Plate was outstanding. Big, tender chunks of tender lamb hiding in a pastry shell, life just doesn’t get any better than this. To be honest with you, I paid more attention to the lamb then the rice and veggies, but what little I did eat of them, they were good. Hot tea with mint leaves was my drink choice.
The Northland is incredibly lucky to have another great restaurant to go along with the great ones we already are so lucky to have. I can only hope that Northlanders will continue to support all of these fine eateries.
Well Done Jerusalem Café!
Well...
Read moreFinally! We've been going to the Westport location for several years now, but after moving up north we haven't had time to make the trip. But now our wait is over.
We always get a hummus and pita appetizer. I don't really care for hummus all that much, but the pita bread unbelievable. Every time we go, I wish they served more pita and its getting to the point that I might just order my own serving.
They, along with Seva, are one of the few places in the area that serve lamb. It's definitely an underrated meat and these guys do a great job preparing it. I've tried all the varieties of lamb dish and they've all been great, and plenty large enough to fill you up. The side serving of rice is...interesting and flavorful.
The lemonade was unreasonably large, and came with a refill. They had a couple different flavors and it's served in what would best be described as a "jug with a straw." Tasty and refreshing.
The main complaint customers seem to have is the service. We're on the "night shift with a toddler" schedule, so we end up there at off-peak dining hours. The waitress was very pleasant and efficient, though it appeared as through she may have been working all the tables alone and could've used a hand. Probably more a management issue than a server issue, as she looked like she was doing the best she could with too-large a workload. It wasn't a problem for us, so no loss of a star there, but I'd expect it as a potential fault during busier hours.
Overall, it's a great restaurant for Mediterranean and hopefully a permanent addition to the Jerusalem...
Read moreI came here when it was known as Jerusalem Cafe and just visited again under their new name Crave Mediterranean Cafe; this place hit the spot! As a middle eastern I have to say this place is when you just want something that reminds you of the ancestral land!
We got the “perfect for sharing” platter so we could taste a bit of everything and we were not disappointed! All the appetizers were AMAZING! Hummus (which came with a small side of an amazing delicious mouthwatering green chickpea that I’ve never had before), the falafel (especially the falafel), and the grape leaves were perfection! The beef shawarma had more of a steak cut/texture than how usual thinly sliced shawarma is so didn’t like that much! The chicken shawarma was the same cut and could have been cooked a bit more but either way it was very flavorful and I would get it again! The chicken skewers and kabobs were so juicy and flavorful; these were cooked to perfection! The beef/lamb gyro was my favorite with the rice. My Father in law had the shrimp skewers and he loved them!
And then the kanafa… THE HOLY GRAIL! The cheese was perfect, not too chewy and not too sweet either! PLEASE NEVER CHANGE THIS RECIPE!
I rarely leave reviews unless I’m wowed multiple times and I was! From now on this is going to be our...
