Three friends and I just had a MARVELOUS lunch at Kin Lin, and we are especially grateful to Miranda, our server, for making it such a special event! When we arrived, Miranda was working the entire front of the house; she let us know about that but in a very kind and gentle way--just so we would know what to expect. As we navigated the menus (she brought us both lunch and dinner versions so that we'd know all the options), she gave us details about particular dishes, including the ingredients and how they were prepared. That was very important to us, as two of our party have dietary restrictions. She was friendly and cheerful and so accommodating, making notes for the chef regarding modifications of some of the dishes. She brewed a pot of delicious oolong-jasmine tea for us, and kept the pot refilled throughout our meal. She was incredibly gracious from start to finish, and really did create a special occasion for us. The food itself was DELICIOUS! We had the eggplant (the sweet version) as an appetizer, rice balls for dessert, and a different main course for each of us. I chose the Triple Delight (chicken, shrimp and vegetable) lunch special, which was a perfect portion size, and everything was yummy. I can't remember everyone's dishes, but I do remember one of the dishes was a shrimp fried rice with curry sauce; my friend shared some with me, and it was fabulous! Our spring rolls were crisp, and the rice was perfectly cooked, and everyone raved about the flavors in their dishes. The cost of our meals was extremely reasonable, and the ambience of the restaurant is warm and cozy. It was a perfect meal of truly excellent food, and many thanks again to Miranda for making it so special! ...
Read moreI can't say much about the food because I have tried one dish .. But that was my first and my last time going to this place I felt like I was treated rudely there by someone I think she is the owner but I am not sure who exactly is she. I am not Chinese and I was treated with an extreme annoying stereotyped ideas . I didn't get an authentic menu even thou it has English text ,my Chinese friends got bowls with chopsticks and I got a plate without even a spoon , I finally ordered after I felt like I am not allowed to get anything from authentic menu like I don't belong to that list and the food was placed on the table. Then I tried to talk with her to ask for a bowl and chopsticks instead of the place and before I even talk she is telling that this my meal right here . I got frustrated but I actually know what I ordered and I know that's my food. . I wasn't going to talk about that. It was a really unpleasant experience and I rather go home without dinner over eating there . This is not the first time I go to a Chinese or Asian restaurant but this is the first time I get treated that way .
Don't assume that your not Chinese customer want a plate and spoon , ask them Don't assume that they don't know the authentic food ,give the a choice Listen to them before you starts making them feel disrespect.. If you are not welling to do so then close your business or don't serve or welcome anyone...
Read moreToday was the first time I went into the restaurant for a meal; I've previously ordered takeout from here before and was happy with it.
I generally get the 皮蛋瘦肉粥 (rice porridge with century egg and pork). The price is reasonable and it's chock full of century eggs throughout (which I love, so that's a plus). It's one of the very few places in town that I've seen that even offer this dish. It's a nostalgic taste of family home cooking for me.
My boyfriend ordered the pickled vegetables and pork intestine, and some sesame chicken. That was delicious as well. The pickled vegetable and pork intestine dish had a nice kick to it, a decent amount of spice. The sesame chicken was not too overbearingly sweet.
The only criticism I might have up until now would be the fried rice that came with the entrees was pretty heavy on the soy sauce.
I also noticed they have ho fun noodles on the menu, which I'll definitely try next time. Ho fun noodles are inexplicably hard to find at Chinese restaurants in KC for some reason, so I'm excited that they offer them here.
Service was friendly and the decor was nice. The booths are a wee bit tight but manageable.
Definitely returning when I'm craving some rice porridge or other familiar dishes. They also have things like steamed fish with ginger and mussels in black bean sauce, which are mainstay dishes in my family and I really want to...
