I'm a new student at UMKC so I was roaming around the campus when I came across this museum. It's one room that's packed full of neat minerals, rocks and fossils.
They have tyrannosaurus, megladon, and mammoth teeth, a meteorite that fell over 4,000 years ago, primordial water trapped inside crystals, a rock that bends, insects trapped in amber, samples of Italian marbles including the type Michaelangelo used.
There are many types of neat looking crystal formations including crystallized gold, fulgurites formed from lightning striking sand, a fossilized flipper from a Plesiosaurus, which was a 50 ft marine reptile, that lived over 70 million years ago around western Kansas. We spent about 45 minutes, but we looked at everything a moderate amount. If you just glance over things, it will take you a lot less time than that.

Parking is not free, and make sure to follow the signs as the UMKC parking can get very strict about things because they have such limited parking to work with (I had no issues with parking today, but I have had issues with UMKC parking...

They have a huge collection of rocks minerals and fossils from the greater Kansas City area as well as from around the world. Some displays are even able to be touched and examined. If you are a rock lover like me this is a must stop while you're in Kansas City. Plus it's completely free!
