I'm a new student at UMKC so I was roaming around the campus when I came across this museum. It's one room that's packed full of neat minerals, rocks and fossils. They have tyrannosaurus, megladon, and mammoth teeth, a meteorite that fell over 4,000 years ago, primordial water trapped inside crystals, a rock that bends, insects trapped in amber, samples of Italian marbles including the type Michaelangelo used. There are many types of neat looking crystal formations including crystallized gold, fulgurites formed from lightning striking sand, a fossilized flipper from a Plesiosaurus, which was a 50 ft marine reptile, that lived over 70 million years ago around western Kansas. Isn't that wild to think about? It's a neat museum!

This small Museum in the library of the University is just terrific. They have a huge collection of rocks minerals and fossils from the greater Kansas City area as well as from around the world. Some displays are even able to be touched and examined. If you are a rock lover like me this is a must stop while you're in Kansas City. Plus it's completely free! I hope they will be able to write detailed descriptions on where the minerals were harvested and why if and when they get more space. This one room museum is very crowded!

Great place for a homeschool field trip! Signs say it’s ok to touch, just be careful of sharp edges. What a relief! Highlights were 5ft tall geodes and the bendable rock. We did a scavenger hunt to find all the colors of the rainbow, and had no trouble. Lots of exclamations of “Wow! Mommy look at this!” This is why we homeschool.

One room, but they filled it up with everything! Totally worth it.

We spent about 45 minutes, but we looked at everything a moderate amount. If you just glance over things, it will take you a lot less time than that.

There is a guestbook that you can sign, so bring a pen if you want to do that.

Parking is not free, and make sure to follow the signs as the UMKC parking can get very strict about things because they have such limited parking to work with (I had no issues with parking today, but I have had issues with UMKC parking...
