Peanut on Main — Restaurant in Kansas City

we were told to come to a peanut location because the wings are so good, so we were super excited to try its home location. upon arriving the guy was super busy but extremely quick... but right after the first couple interactions, it was obvious we were forgotten about. it took 45 minutes to get 3 wings and a reuben. that was the first thing that was crazy. after it came out we did not even recieve an apology, but we brushed it off due to a shift change. then after waiting another 30 minutes for our check that we asked for, we decided to get up and see if we could just pay it at the bar. THEN they continued to bus, seat and take orders from the new people at the table we had JUST gotten up from to pay before we were even addressed at the bar.... that we were standing at for like 15 minutes just trying to pay. (we were literally inches away from the table being served, being ignored by the server). Finally, when we got the bartenders attention we let him know we were just trying to pay and leave and he said "yeah you guys hold on one minute" and then walked over to the group next to us at the bar and tabbed them out before even coming back to apologize for the 2 hours it took to have a bar meal. honestly we should have just walked out at that point because of all the blatant rudeness. it was like we were purposefully being ignored. After working in the restaurant/bar industry for almost 8 years, this is actually unacceptable and not worth the hype. will def be telling people to avoid this location. 0 stars. maybe 1 for the wings...

Food is consistently great, just like the service is consistently the worst. I have lived a couple blocks away from this Peanut for 7 years and I am finally to the point where I now go to the downtown location because I am sick of how awful and rude the bar tenders are at this location. When I bring friends from out of town to this location, I always have to warn them that while the wings are the best, the service is horrific. The bar tenders seem legitimately upset to serve people and are so condescending. I went there for the last time last night and my group and I left after one drink because there was no way we were going to endure the horrible server longer than that. I HIGHLY recommend going to the downtown location over this place. The service at the downtown location is always great and so is the food.

UPDATE: 2 years later still hadn't gone back to the main street location but was bullied to give it another chance. We went early on Sunday before it got busy to have a beer and and order wings to go. We tried to get someones attention to get a beer with no luck. Maybe I just have one of those faces that the people at that specific Peanut location don't want to serve. We ended up just leaving and going to the the Peanut in Mission. I'm a big supporter of KC business, so I highly recommend people support anyone one of the other Peanut locations. This one...

Tonight really let me down, as a Kansas City local who doesn’t live here anymore everytime I am in town I come to the peanut to this exact peanut to enjoy the wings, yes it’s usually packed on a Friday night & Truly I get that as I myself have worked in the industry in the past, tonight the server/bartender working behind the counter did not want to serve me or my brother we waited in total for 35 minutes she never came to the table to even ask for drinks, i had to get up to ask if they could come and take our order & they said they would & never did This is usually the problem with a local spot like this the staff gets comfortable with the locals that come in all the time & they don’t seem to like to touch base with people who they don’t see all the time, it’s really a shame that they did this & she has served me in the past. I am a die hard peanut fan & I always come here over going to the other peanuts because it’s the original one but now i don’t know if they will ever taste the same mind you that a couple came in after us & left before us that’s how long we waited, i saw one of the bartenders go to the back to eat food while I hadn’t even gotten a glass of water for the first 20 minutes… I’m a pretty patient person but all I wanted was 3 wings & a blt would of been in & out needless to say I don’t think I’ll be coming back...
