Brought some friends here for a birthday dinner because I had been to the Lees Summit location and loved it. But this time was not a great experience. This time, even though I had reservations, we were seated and it took the waitress 30 minutes (no exagg…) to come greet us. We requested water and sodas and to took another 15 minutes to receive those. Across the restaurant, we observed a couple having a similar experience as us.. they decided to get up and leave. When our drinks arrived, we decided to put in our appetizer orders because we just assumed they would take a long time to get… and we were right. When they finally brought out the appetizers, they brought out the wrong one… so we had to send it back and request the correct item. Once our appetizers arrived we went ahead and ordered our entrees. My friends got the meatloaf to share. My other friend got the Nashville hot wings. And I got the Shrimp and Grits. Y’all… the meatloaf looked and tasted like dog food. And to add insult to their injury, they garnished it with peas. PEAS. That should be illegal. The Nashville Hot wings literally looked like someone went to Popeyes chicken and poured those wings on a plate. And her French Fries were ICE cold. I will say that my Shrimp and Grits were phenomenal- no complaints there. But I ended up being the only one with food what was edible so I just boxed mine up to bring home. And to make matters worse… we paid and were leaving at 10pm. Our reservations were at 7:30. I understand it’s a new location and there are some kinks to work out but overall it was an underwhelming experience for the amount of money they charge. They should definitely consider having the hostess deliver water and complimentary biscuits right when seated if patrons will have to wait an hour to order...
Read moreI wanted to love Third Street Social, but didn’t have a chance. The building is so cute and the menu looked delicious, so I made reservations for my birthday dinner.
When we got there the host was nice, but told us to sit where we wanted; which seemed a little lazy. What’s the point of making a reservation if they don’t reserve a nice table for customers that plan ahead? It was a Thursday evening and it wasn’t busy, so we easily found a seat. The ambiance was great and the restaurant felt very lively.
At the 12-minute mark after being seated, nobody had spoken to us. Not a single check in at our table. Our waiter told us water was coming at approximately the 14-minute mark. We finally got water 18 minutes after being seated. My husband mentioned we were celebrating my birthday and the waiter didn’t seem interested.
Despite our waiter’s disinterest, we were there to celebrate, so we ordered cocktails. At the 31-minute mark, we still hadn’t received our cocktails and our server hadn’t come back for our appetizer order, so we left.
I have literally never left a restaurant and it made me so sad because it was such a cute space. The odd part was that 4 employees, including our waiter and the host, watched us walk out and didn’t say a word.
I can fully appreciate understaffed restaurants, but that didn’t seem the case. Our waiter was socializing and didn’t seem to have an excess of tables. I’m happy to wait reasonable times, but 31 minutes with only water is not acceptable.
I’m hoping to give Third Street Social another try because the menu looks great, but I’m not sure I can talk husband...
Read moreI recently purchased a house in the S Plaza area of KCMO. Third Street Social has been building out this new location for several months, it just opened at the end of July 2021. The inside is really nice, and really well done.
HOWEVER, I went opening night with 2 other people and could not hear a single thing at my table. The acoustics of the dining room were so, so horrible. As a result, everyone at neighboring tables also had to raise their voices, resulting in the loudest dining room I think I've ever experienced. I couldn't hear a thing the waitress said. Absolutely frustrating and annoying. Don't come here to catch up. Don't come here on a date. Don't come here to talk -- you wont hear a thing.
Also, the menu was WAY overpriced. $18 for chicken tenders... want them "Nashville Hot"? Add another $1. Want a few pieces of chicken with your $11 chop salad? That'll be an $8 up charge. $13 for a Buffalo Trace Bourbon... what is this, Los Angeles? Nevermind the fact that only one drink on the menu features a locally made spirit.
Also, the menu was all over the place, so much so that I was so overwhelmed with what to order (and I couldn't hear the waitress's recommendations). I couldn't decide between the Korean Steak Tacos, the Fried Mac and Cheese, or the Hawaiian Ribeye. Reminded me over a grossly overpriced Jack in the Box.
Honestly, this was a huge let down. I won't be back. There's plenty of other better, cheaper, quieter restaurants less than a block away -- go to...
