After completing my undergraduate through UMKC, I returned to achieve my nursing degree. At the end of my first year, I became a roommate with a fellow student also seeking a seat in the nursing program. She was getting amazing grades and offered to study with me since she paid for a tutor for Anatomy Lab and Lecture.
When I arrived to the study session, she provided me the answers to the final and told me we only need to study the list of correct answers.
I told her this was not ok and would not participate. I then visited the lead professors about this cheating and NOTHING was done. In fact, Rachel, my old roommate is now a forensics nurse in Colorado. She also had a "medical excuse" for lab testing allowing her to come and go from the lab as needed, due to her nervous stomach. She hid the answers in the bathroom.
While pleading my case to the lead professors, sadly one of them is STILL in charge to discuss the curve grading and the cheating that was going on and I was told I had no proof and there was nothing they could do about it without proof.
I explained she was already in trouble for our Microbiology class that she was found cheating and called out in front of the class. Rachel (roommate) filed a complaint against the professor because she didn't believe she was cheating since the professor provided the answer guide and she corrected it before handing it in. The assignment was to look at all of the presentations and answer the questions from what was presented. The answers were provided for us to study the correct information for our final not to correct the assignment.
Nothing was done, I wasn't going to continue paying for a school that had limited seats accepted into the program each year based on grades/ranking, when the CURVE GRADING was fraudulent.
I have tried to dispute this but when the professors could not do anything, the school couldn't either without proof, so I am left with an insane bill for literally nothing. Had I known this was how the department would handle such a problem, I never would have enrolled in this school for my undergrad and NEVER would have enrolled in their pre nursing program.
Requesting the tuition for unfair grading be abolished and removed from my credit. I was left with a bill I have NEVER paid and will not pay. I dropped out because I wasn't going to fund a program that wasn't equally attainable for each student...
Read moreThis is a horrid school for computer science and they do not care about the students' education at all.
The professors here seem to be horribly unorganized. They seem to bounce around with who will be teaching you within the same semester, leaving you with a mess of grading expectations and teaching lectures. The grading is done sporadically. In fact, in my current programming class for the spring semester, I have not received a single grade. It is beyond me how you are expected to improve if you have no idea how well you are actually doing on any of the material.
Classes can be taught by legitimate students, something I have never had happen before (I am a transfer student). I would not mind this as much if they were at least knowledgeable about the topic they are teaching or able to convey the lessons in a decent way, but they cannot. Referring back to my programming class, I am completely convinced this school hired someone who is not only completely unqualified to do this but does not actually know the programming language this individual is assigned to teach. In addition to being a student, this individual is never prepared, has yet to write a functioning program without the students walking him through what to do, and will "cover" a topic for about 15 minutes. I could go on, but I feel like what's been explained here is enough. Every CS course I have taken at this school except one has been like this.
I have complained to this school's administration about my concerns with the professors and the department to be met with essentially a shrug.
If you are going for a CS degree, pass this place up. You will most certainly receive a sub-par education and poor teachers. This place does not care and , frankly, you will be paying thousands to learn nothing.

Read moreI gave UMKC 5 stars since I emotionally hope my university to be rated well. This school has lots of support for students, such as library, there are enough funds for the students to apply for them to get their own equipment for class projects. But not many students go there for that. There are writing centers all over the campus that you can use for grammar checking for your paper or resume. As a student, you can also find a tutor or get academic help from student success center. Even though I didn't use those resources while I was a student, I think it is great for a university to have the resources.
I earned entrepreneurship scholarship and attended that program for half a year. That program is awesome for you to get connections with attorneys, potential investors or coach from professor or volunteer business owners. As an international student, I love my school because the faculty is so helpful and the classmates are very nice.
I think this school needs more time to grow and train the administrators to run the school better. But overall, this is a great school to attend. I hope to see the staff know better about their work and the university leader focus on improving the student service to another level to better prepare the students to meet their personal goal...
