Drove 20 minutes this morning to surprise my daughter , checked accepted forms of payment before we arrived , looked around for accepted forms of payment when we arrived ordered our food and then was told they would not accept my cash for our bill. Absolutely unacceptable that you waste people’s time , and are in violation of the treasury departments law that you must have posted that you will not accept certain forms of cash before the debt is incurred by the customer to inform them that you will not accept certain denominations. I so wanted to enjoy having you in Northern Kansas City , but will never be back and will tell everyone I know to avoid you. Thanks for waisting our time.
Edit after response:My review is not a “trashing” as you state but an honest “review” of my experience at your establishment. What I had in my wallet was $8.00 in 1 dollar bills and my company credit card, that is to be used for company business. I had 2 $100.00 bills on me as well. You are well within your right to accept what ever denominations of cash you wish to accept as a business owner, it would be nice as a courtesy to your guests that you post that somewhere so that they know(as well as what is required of businesses by the treasury department). Also you only get one chance at a first impression when trying to get people to shift their buying habits. New York style bagels are not a mainstream decision for most people so making the choice to spend some of your income and take a chance on supporting a local business is a big decision, and often times a good one because they generally care about their customers experience more than the chains, just not the case here. I appreciate that you took the time to respond, but that still doesn’t change what happened or the content of my original post. I did my due diligence before coming to be prepared to have a good experience at a locally owned business, providing that experience was on you . . . Not me. When I choose to spend my money it is based on product ( I was excited to try) the property (brand new building), and the experience...that is what your selling, not just bagels and...
Read moreI have been looking for a great bagel place in the Kansas city area since I am originally from New Jersey and lived in New York for a while. This place makes amazing kosher bagels. As a Goy I always buy good Jewish Bagels and then instantly make them non kosher by adding bacon or pork roll at home. The Pastrami Lox is amazing and the cream cheese is light and fluffy it's exactly like the difference between regular butter out of the refrigerator and room temperature whipped butter. The only thing that I could think of that this place needs is Egg Bagels and Egg Everything Bagels but I spoke with the Owner and he said that he gave it a try but he's so committed to the quality of his bagels that he had to put two eggs in the dough for one bagel before he could get it tasting like a real egg bagel. Using powdered or egg substitute is against his religious commitment to making a quality Jewish Bagel at a fair price. Thank you so much for bringing back a wonderful part of New York back to Kansas City for me and my family. Even my nine year old daughter admitted these are the only bagels that I should buy. I've tried Panera bagels and they don't have the right texture probably because they are not boiling...
Read moreThis place is awesome! I am from Missouri but lived in NYC for seven years and married a New Yorker. When we came back to Missouri (well, I came back and she came with me) we spent years in the bagel wilderness. Einstein came as close as we could find but it still wasn't the same and then they closed the closest one to us (which wasn't really that close anyway). We resolved that we would just have to enjoy a good bagel only when we went back East. And then, the clouds parted and a shaft of light came down and led us into the promised land (of bagels). The bagels are perfect, crisp on the exterior, soft inside. And they taste just like they should. They are so good, we usually just get plain. When they taste right, you don't need to gum up the works with extra flavors (although my wife does love the cinnamon crunch bagels they have for a limited time). The Nova Lox is my special favorite. The white fish smear is great, too. If I stop on the way in from work, I have to sneak it in because everyone at work wants them, too (but we do sometimes bring in for everyone). Meshuggah is excellent and we stop at least once (usually two or three...
