This is going to be a “stinging” review. Our experience this morning was so bad. Extremely disappointed. Been waiting for it to open. First off walking in the hostess does not greet you. You look around as to where to go or does someone seat you. Then she says how many, just 2 words. She seats us then just walks off. She could care less about us as a customer. The server, K., spoke few words and you could barely hear her. I asked for cream for my coffee, just one thing to remember. She forgets to bring it. We give her a coupon for free churro donuts. They were greasy and you could not get the sugar off your hands. My advice, eat with a fork. Too sweet for me. We wait and wait and wait to order. Our server is just walking around talking to other employees. Finally she comes by and asks us everything ok. We say no, we are still waiting to order. She doesn’t even apologize. Trying to give her an order was a nightmare. We had to keep repeating it over and over. I had to flag down another server to finally get Cream. By the way, the coffee was way, way too strong and bitter. Had to put 4 creams and 2 sugars and it still wasn’t great. I ordered 2 Eggs and a Cake. Ordered eggs over-medium and got over -easy. Asked for bacon crisp and no lie, got burnt over cooked bacon that I did not eat. The hash town casserole was very bland. Did not eat it. Also mushy. Later she brings the pancake I was supposed to get. It had a terrible after taste I had to wash down with water. It also was doughy in the middle. My husband ordered Brisket Breakfast Tacos. The tortillas were soggy but he liked the inside. He chose grits and server K. asked would you like the cheesy kind and he said yes thinking you had a choice, NOT! For a teaspoon size bit of cheese they added a dollar to the check without telling you it would cost extra. Needless to say when I got home had to make myself breakfast as could not eat what I received at this place. Beware of breakfast here as it was a disaster for us. My breakfast cost almost $12. Could have gotten the same at Cracker Barrel for less with good coffee and excellent hash brown casserole. Won’t be coming back here and it’s a shame. We need more breakfast places...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a place to dine out for breakfast or lunch, there is no shortage of options in most cities. Katy, a suburb of Houston, has a few hundred different restaurants and most serve meals throughout the day. But if you want a restaurant that specializes in breakfast, lunch, and brunch, a good choice is Toasted Yolk Café.
With its emphasis on breakfast and lunch foods, diners will find an assortment of eggs, waffles, pancakes etc plus lunch items such as sandwiches, soup, and salads. The menu isn’t overwhelming, and that is a good thing, since it makes it easier to make up your mind. I usually go for one of the sandwiches and I like that there are different options for sides, such as soup, salad, fruit, etc. This is better than other restaurants, many of which only offer fries and nothing else.
Toasted Yolk Café has a casual interior and it does have a bar for your boozing pleasure. Given the restaurant’s reputation for breakfast and brunch, mimosas are a popular option. But they serve many other drinks also, as well as beer. This is always an added plus, as many breakfast and lunch foods are made even better with a good libation to wash them down.
Service at Toasted Yolk Café is excellent and I have noticed that they will go out of their way to make your dining experience at this Katy location as enjoyable as possible. There is no dinner served here- it is strictly a restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and brunch. It’s a cool place overall and a restaurant I am bound to visit many more times, especially when I’m in the mood for a delicious morning or...
Read moreI went in for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Clean and everyone was busy working Emma was my server and she was very attentive Ordered a caramel macchiato I think and it was very good but sweet. Carol was working the bar and also waiting tables. She was real nice to help me adjust it by adding some regular coffee. Then it was perfect. I wanted orange juice but surprised they used that Borden's juice in the gallon jug. I expected fresh squeezed or atleast Simply Orange, Tropicana or atleast Minute Maid. Oh well so no juice. Ordered Philly scramble with egg whites but came with regular eggs. Manager brought it out and I sent back and they fixed right away. The dish comes with priime rib and vegetables scrambled with the eggs cheddar cheese all blended together but then comes topped with queso to mimmick Cheez Wiz some some Philly up North. I dont care for that fake cheese so before they remade it I asked for it on the side. I'm glad I did because the queso was VERY salty. I added a little to taste and it was fine. I'm not a huge prime rib fan especially when it's not seasoned ahead of time. It has a weird flavor. But the dish was very good. Really liked the hashbrowns casserole on the side. They have a green house salsa that is supposed to be hot and garlicky. Tried it and it was pretty ok. Overall great service and I'm sure the food is great but I just didn't love what I ordered. Will be back to try other items. Really loved the attentive service. Price was a little high for what I thought it should be but inline with other similar restaurants. I...
