Anyone that knows me knows that service is one of the top criteria for a restaurant - or any service oriented business for that matter. Bad service will completely tank a business in my opinion - regardless of how good any of their other offerings are. And in contrast good service will earn forgiveness for a myriad of errors.
Also, in my opinion Indian cuisine is some of richest, tastiest food I have had the pleasure to enjoy. The chefs that have mastered the art of Indian cuisine are, in fact, masters of blending of spices and ingredients so has to give the dishes many layers of deliciousness.
It is easy to see why I was quite excited to see that a new Indian restaurant had opened so close to home. I was very excited to try Turmeric. Last night my family and I finally had the opportunity.
The first thing I will say is Turmeric did not have to rely on great service to earn forgiveness for any quality issues. Nonetheless, the service was beyond exceptional. The young lady that waited on us greeted us with a most charming smile. She was patient with our different questions (I am somewhat familiar with Indian food but not an expert by any stretch of the imagination). She provided many suggestions - so many in fact that I think I am going to dine here every day for the next year to make sure I enjoy everything she suggested. Throughout our meal she stopped by to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. She especially showed concern for my wife after I explained that she didn't have a huge tolerance for spicy food. But most of all, she truly seemed to be proud of the food and service that she and the restaurant staff were presenting - and she certainly had every reason to be proud.
The food was absolutely delicious. To put this in perspective, my teenage son, who has developed quite a palette especially for ethnically diverse foods, had a simple "WOW" after tasting the four dishes we ordered. This is high praise from the teenager.
We started off with Chef 65 Paneer. The sauce that was on the paneer was a little spicy but delicious. Even my spicy intolerant wife enjoyed the flavor of the dish. My son and I both decided that the sauce would be absolutely delicious on chicken (one of the many things we will have to try in a future visit.
My wife ordered a chicken fried rice. I must admit that I thought this was an odd item on an Indian menu. Nevertheless, the dish was very good. The star of the dish was, in fact, the perfectly cooked, tender chicken.
My son ordered one of the goat biryani's. I honestly don't remember which one as I think there were three different types on the menu. Again, it was exquisitely prepared and delicious. My son's only criticism (and it was really more of a comment than criticism) was regarding the spice level. I pointed out that the dish came with a side off raita which helps tone done the spiciness. He added the raita to his biryani and the dish earned another "WOW". This was the only bite I managed to get off his plate (you take your life in your hands when you try to get the teenager's food) and when I say the flavors of Indian food are deliciously layered this brought it to whole new level.
Finally, I ordered the Garlic Saag with chicken. I'm not going to repeat everything I've said so far. It was delicious. In fact, as I write this I'm enjoying my leftovers of it.
Portion sizes were very generous for us and I didn't think for what we got and the amount of what we got the prices were at all unreasonable.
So I've mentioned the spice level a few times. The food did run a little spicy - which I didn't mind but others may be more like my wife. Don't fear! Our server was only too happy to make suggestions of dishes that my wife and I would be able to share in the future and the spice level would be toned down.
In summary, this place is well rounded. Great service, great atmosphere, and fabulous food. I couldn't wait to try them and I now I can't wait until...
Read moreTurmeric Indian Cuisine & Bar is a vegetarian paradise tucked away in Katy, TX. As a vegetarian, I often struggle to find restaurants that offer a diverse and satisfying selection of meatless dishes, but Turmeric has exceeded my expectations on every visit.
The menu is a treasure trove of vegetarian delights. From traditional classics to innovative creations, there's a wealth of options to explore. The restaurant truly understands the art of balancing spices and flavors to create vegetarian dishes that are nothing short of outstanding.
One of the standout dishes for me is the Paneer Tikka. The soft, marinated cubes of paneer cheese are perfectly grilled and served with a tantalizing blend of spices and vegetables. It's a flavor explosion that keeps me coming back for more. The Bhindi Masala, featuring tender okra cooked with spices, is another must-try for vegetarians looking for something uniquely delicious.
Turmeric also offers an array of vegetarian curries, each with its own distinct personality. The creamy and aromatic Vegetable Korma is a personal favorite, showcasing a medley of vegetables in a rich, flavorful sauce. Pair it with their fluffy naan or fragrant basmati rice for a satisfying meal.
The service at Turmeric deserves special mention. The staff is not only accommodating but also well-versed in the vegetarian options available. They're happy to guide you through the menu, suggest dishes, and adjust spice levels to your preference.
The ambiance is elegant yet comfortable, making it suitable for any occasion, whether you're celebrating a special event or enjoying a casual dinner with friends. The full bar offers an excellent selection of non-alcoholic beverages, including flavorful mocktails.

Read moreTried this new place out over the weekend. The restaurant is just average. The ambience is good, but the food is mediocre at best. When we first walked in and asked for a child’s high chair they apparently ordered them and they still hadn’t come in yet. We were lucky our stroller was in the car otherwise we would have left right away. The Chicken appetizer was heavily salted and the Paneer appetizer was tough to chew, makes me think it wasn’t fresh and a few days old. The plain naan on some parts of it was still undercooked and some of the other dishes we ordered such as Mutton and Panner gravy were too sweet and heavily creamed. The service was a bit slow as well. We had to flag down the waitress many times to get refills on water and other things.
Update: After leaving an okay review last time I decided to give this place another chance since I am a firm believer in second chances. To my dismay the food and service was worse than the first time. I figured some time had passed and I am sure by now the restaurant has gotten a bit better but I was wrong. This time I came in with a big party and so many things were wrong. First they didn’t have enough staff working that day. This was coming directly from a waitress. We tried ordering drinks from the bar but no bartender so no drinks. Second, half of our table got their meal and the other half didn’t for some reason. While it wasn’t super busy since it was a weekday there really was no excuse to not have all of the dishes served at the same time. The food itself was just gross and bland. We ordered vegetarian and meat dishes and guess what!? Both dishes looked exactly the same color with little to no difference. So it was hard to tell which dishes had meat pieces and which dishes didn’t. The icing on the cake was when the waitress convinced the head of the party that the number of dishes we were ordering wouldn’t be enough for our party size. The host didn’t know any better and ordered more dishes. More than half of the food was thrown away because it was too much and bland, so sadly that was a huge...
