I love going out and hearing live music and I like it even more when the music comes completely free of a cover charge and the setting is unique. This is what you get when you visit Wildcatter Saloon, a Katy establishment.
Wildcatter Saloon is well- known for its appearance on the television show the Apprentice and I happened to be one of the people present in the audience when the show was being recorded. The establishment did undergo quite a change and most of those changes are still in place today and are still helping the establishment succeed.
As I said, live music is one of the chief draws at Wildcatter Saloon. They have live music inside the main space, but they also sometimes have the bands take the stage outside and it is here that you can sometimes see better known musical artists perform. When this happens, you can naturally expect to pay some money, but it’s worth it to see some of these bands from yesteryear. Otherwise, when the music is on the inside, there is usually no additional money to pay so you can use your cash on more important things.
Wildcatter Saloon has a food truck parked in the back, right next to its outdoor back patio. There is a pool table and other fun back here and it’s a good place to grab some fresh air. The food is often quite tasty and most will be pleasantly surprised by what they experience.
One issue I have with Wildcatter Saloon is the beer selection. It’s really not that good and the last time I visited, there were exactly two beers that were worthy of my money. Wildcatter is really best if you like liquor, as the beer selection is weak. Prices aren’t bad, either, so I wouldn’t worry about that.
The other problem many people have with Wildcatter Saloon is the location. It’s out of the way, back on a dead end street that is connected to the feeder/frontage road, which is a one way street. This can make it a challenge to find, but if you can make your way here, I recommend giving it a try. It’s got a country vibe and a look and feel like few other taverns in the Katy area and it’s one of the few places where you can experience live music for little or no...

Read moreWent there for a Blue Oyster Cult concert. The show was about as good as you can get for an outdoor, general admission show. (Read, bring your own chair if you want to sit). Even the $100 VIP section was set up for standing unless you paid extra for a four top table. The show was pretty good except for the bright white spots the light guy had sweeping the audience, aimed face high. The band played about half and half old favorites to newer songs. With three guitarists on stage, there were plenty of chances to trade off lead runs. About 150 or so were there for the concert.
The problem was more of a venue item. Recent rain left the ground very unlevel. I stumbled and almost fell 3 or 4 times. Also, as an old guy, I'm just not made for standing for an hour and a half between the opening pianist and the main show. The good part was that the lead parking guy recognized my age and made me a deal on close in parking. Thanks parking guys! I will also note the the bulk of the folks at this bar were not there for the concert. They were there to watch the Astros punch their ticket to the World Series. It is also kind of hard to find. It is at the end of a pot hole lined, mostly dirt road. I drove past the turn three times because their was no sign at the freeway...
