Let me just say — Yummy Quan – Hu Tieu Nam Vang completely blew me away. Houston has no shortage of Vietnamese restaurants, but this place raises the bar and brings something truly special to the table. I visited yesterday and tried their Bánh Khọt and Bánh Xèo, and I’m still thinking about it today. It’s not often you walk into a brand-new restaurant and immediately know you’ve found a favorite, but that’s exactly what happened.
🥇 Bánh Xèo: Golden, Crispy, Generous First off — the Bánh Xèo. This wasn’t just good — it was one of the best I’ve had anywhere. Golden, super crispy, and HUGE — they’re not holding back. The batter was light, flavorful, and perfectly textured, with a delicate crunch in every bite. It was generously filled with shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts, and served with fresh herbs and lettuce that were crisp and clean. You can tell they care about the ingredients. The only note I’d give (and this is super minor) is that it could benefit from just a little more oil absorption, but even that didn’t stop me from devouring every bite. It’s that addictive.
🥰 Bánh Khọt: Little Bites of Heaven Their Bánh Khọt is no slouch either. These little savory rice cakes are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a creamy coconut undertone that makes them seriously crave-worthy. Each one is topped with shrimp and scallions, and when dipped in the nước chấm and wrapped with herbs — chef’s kiss. Perfectly executed.
🥤 Sugarcane Juice: A Trip Back to Vietnam Now let’s talk about the sugarcane drink — because this deserves its own spotlight. I asked if they could add kumquat (tắc), which is how it’s traditionally done in Vietnam, and they happily obliged. That addition took the drink to another level. The flavor was refreshing, zesty, and so nostalgic. One sip and it was like being back on the streets of Saigon with a cup of freshly pressed nước mía in hand. It’s sweet, tangy, and has that perfect citrus balance. Truly one of the best versions I’ve had in the States.
🏠 Ambiance & Hospitality: Warm, Welcoming, and Down-to-Earth Although the restaurant is new, it already has a welcoming vibe that feels like home. The staff were attentive, friendly, and open to feedback — always a great sign that they care about the customer experience. You can tell they’re passionate about their food and proud of their flavors, and they should be — this is the kind of place that earns regulars fast.
💯 Final Thoughts: Your New Go-To for Vietnamese in the Katy/Houston Area If you’re craving real, flavorful, authentic Vietnamese food — this is it. From the carefully crafted dishes to the traditional drinks, Yummy Quan hits all the right notes. The fact that it’s a new restaurant makes it even more impressive. With quality like this, I have no doubt they’ll develop a loyal following quickly. I know I’ll be back — I’m already planning my next visit to try their Hu Tieu Nam Vang, which I’ve heard is just as spectacular.
Pro tip: Ask for the kumquat in your sugarcane juice. You’ll thank me later.

Read moreYummy Quán -Hu Tiếu Nam Vang in Katy. Finally, an authentic Vietnamese gem in the Katy area! This is my third visit to this spot, and I’ve been meaning to write a review—so here it is!
The moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by a cozy, inviting atmosphere with thoughtful decor that makes you feel right at home. The service is equally warm—friendly, attentive, and genuine from start to finish. The staff greets you with smiles, and it truly feels like they care about your experience.
Now let’s talk about the food. Their signature dish, Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang (dry or soup version), is absolutely packed with flavor. The broth is rich, the noodles are cooked perfectly, and it’s generously topped with meats. I tried both versions—dry and soupy—and honestly, I can’t decide which one I love more.
The Bánh Khọt is another standout. Light, crispy, and airy, with a delicious mix of meats or shrimp, and topped with a scoop of coconut cream that took me right back to Vietnam. It’s rare to find it done this well outside of Vietnam. Their Bánh Xèo is just as amazing—crispy, flavorful, and served fresh.
What really impressed me was the level of hospitality. If I could give their customer service a million stars, I would. The young chef (who is also very charming!) personally came out to introduce himself, shared a bit about the menu, and told us how the restaurant got started. It was such a sweet and personal touch, and we had a lovely conversation.
He also introduced us to a dessert that completely blew me away: avocado and coconut ice cream. The texture was silky smooth, perfectly sweet, and just heavenly. Seriously—to die for. The Pandan waffle also good too. I’m already planning my next visit. I heard they’re introducing new dishes on the weekends, and I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu. If you’re craving authentic Vietnamese flavors in Katy, this is the place....
Read moreI came here for the Banh Xeo. I’ve only had this mid town so I wanted to try it somewhere else. This Vietnamese crepe takes about 20min to make so I’d order this as soon as I sat down. When it showed up it was larger than I expected and filled with lots of goodies. The sweet fish sauce is in a bottle that’s already on the table. This is great since you can use as much as you want and it is required for this dish. You have to cut/tear this into pieces that wrap with lettuce leafs. It’s delicious and serve as a meal if you eat it alone. I recommend sharing so that you can try other dishes. The other herbs I didn’t use. One of them had such a strong odor that I found off putting. This is my favorite Banh Xeo so far. The Hu Tieu Nam Vang noodle soup had a strong flavorful delicious broth. My wife thought it was a little fishy but I didn’t find that to be the case. There are organ meats in it so beware if you’re not into that. The Wonton noodle couple had a very delicious broth as well. Windows were soft thin wrappers that I like. Overall very good to eat with the sweet pickled jalapenos. I also ordered the Bun Dau Mam Tom which is served with a sweet fermented shrimp paste. The paste was okay but preferred dipping with the fish sauce instead. There are much more organic meats here including pig intestines. Overall I appreciated the uniqueness of this dish but at the end of the day it’s not for me. This dish is not for the faint of heart. This restaurant serves traditional Vietnamese street food and they definitely appeal to those who misses their home food. I’d come back again and try other things including...
