My first visit to H Mart Katy was an absolute delight, a sensory adventure that left me eager to return. Tucked into Katy Asian Town at 23119 Colonial Parkway, this sprawling Asian-American supermarket welcomed me with its vibrant energy and an overwhelming array of sights, smells, and flavors. As a newbie to this culinary wonderland, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but it didn’t take long for me to realize I’d stumbled into a food lover’s paradise.
Walking through the doors, I was immediately struck by the sheer variety. The aisles were brimming with treasures I’d never seen in a standard grocery store—exotic fruits like dragon fruit and lychee, shelves packed with every imaginable type of noodle, and an endless selection of sauces that promised to elevate my home cooking. The produce section was a rainbow of freshness, with pristine greens, plump mushrooms, and roots I couldn’t even name but was dying to try. The seafood counter was a showstopper—tanks of live fish and trays of glistening shrimp and squid that looked like they’d just been plucked from the ocean. It was clear this place takes freshness seriously.
I couldn’t resist exploring the food court, a bustling corner of H Mart that felt like a mini trip across Asia. I settled on a steaming bowl of ramen from one of the stalls—rich, savory broth loaded with springy noodles, tender pork, and a perfectly jammy egg. It was comfort food at its finest, and at a price that felt like a steal for the quality. I also grabbed a couple of crispy, golden pork buns to go, and they were so good I nearly turned around to order more. The food court alone is worth the visit, with options ranging from Korean BBQ to sushi, all served up fast and fresh.
What really stood out, though, was how clean and organized everything was. The staff were friendly and quick to help when I looked lost (which was often), and the store’s layout made it easy to wander without feeling overwhelmed. There’s even a little gift shop near the entrance with adorable trinkets—think Hello Kitty socks and Pokémon goodies—that added a playful touch to the experience.
My first trip to H Mart Katy was a whirlwind of discovery, from the vibrant ingredients to the mouthwatering eats. It’s not just a grocery store; it’s a cultural hub that invites you to explore and indulge. I left with a bag full of goodies—some miso paste, a pack of rice cakes, and those irresistible pork buns—and a promise to myself to come back soon. If you’re in Katy and craving something new, H Mart is an...

Read moreComing home, stopped in Katy to check out the new HMart and it's surrounding Asian restaurants. Enjoyed the experience! The stationery shop in the front is pretty cute. The face care area next to it seemed like Koreans take really take good care of their skin!
The food court is a good size with many different styles of food. We tried the Korean fried chicken and Korean style sushi. There are many choices of fried chicken sauces with different heat levels. The sushi was a very generous portion for $7, but it was all cooked ingredients and NO wasabi. One of the ingredients is hot dog!
There is fresh seafood, produce like durian, a kimchi wall, a tofu section and more!
Some of the surrounding restaurants in this Asian center are open, with others opening soon. Looking forward to trying out all the various types of food next time we come through.
So enjoyed wandering around inside, but downgraded my rating due to what happened when we exited.
Be careful crossing the parking and entering the store! An Asian male dropping a pallet of goods to the side of the front door did not slow down and barely missed hitting the parking lot attendant returning shopping carts!!! The attendant swerved his carts as well as he could as the driver came barreling into the entrance! I saw what happened, yelled at the driver over the noisy motor that he almost hit someone. He just nodded and kept on. He started backing up as we left and I quickened my pace. We were behind him as he didn't seem to be looking backward!
Management needs to talk with or terminate him as a careless, unprofessional employee could create an expensive lawsuit situation...
