The Works Café — Restaurant in Keene

Loved it!

Stopped here today to grab some lunch and didn't expect to find such a great place to dine in today here at the "Works Café"

From the outside you will find outdoor seating on the sidewalk area off to the side or you can choose to dine inside. We chose to dine in today but on our next visit we would like try the outside experience.

Upon entering the Café they have the A/C going so it's nice and cool. There are tables for two or you can sit in a booth ( up to 4 people I believe).

As you walk up to the front just go to the first counter this is where you place your order. Tell the person what you would like, then simply wait for your order at the next counter. Don't forget to get your drinks. Once you receive your order you come.over to the counter near their first counter where you place your order and you will find plastic utensils ( if needed) straws, napkins, and the urns with the different flavors of tea ( if that's what your ordered) next just look around to see where you would like to sit and enjoy your meal.

They serve breakfast all day, they have a nice selection sandwiches , a nice selection of paninis.

We chose to have their chicken paninis with a parfay on the side and lemon flavored tea for the beverage.

Our order came out promptly and the food plating is very nice, the parfay was delicious, The taste of our paninis was amazing.

We definitely plan to stop by once again and try something new on there menu. If you have not been here before I definitely recommend you stop by and just take a peek I'm sure you will find something interesting here.

The food tastes good, with good quality ingredients. However, I've not gotten a single takeout or to-go order correctly in over a year. At first, it was something I could overlook because I love the wholesome food here. However, I'm having a hard time ever going back after I couldn't even explain my complaint last time because the wonderfully cheery lady helping me walked off mid-sentence and couldn't address my concerns. I've tried just not ordering through Doordash, but the last two times I've come in, I've ordered to go just from the counter, and my order was still wrong. If I sit in, it's usually fine, but I carry out a continuous struggle with adhering to substitutions or additions. Of the over $500 I've spent here this past 6mo, I haven't gotten the additions I've asked for and been charged for if it's on the Togo line; they just don't do it. I've complained on the Doordash App and gone into the Keene store personally to try to rectify things to no avail. I'm leaving this review and most likely won't be coming back, which makes me sad bc this was one of my favorite places to eat, especially on the go 😪

UPDATE It was almost $60 for a soggy sandwich we asked for toasted, got 2 bites in, and the entire thing fell apart. $7 for a little Mac, and it comes half full! I've lost count of how many times we come back and end up disappointed. At least it's...

So you may wonder "really, ONE STAR?

Sadly, YES and here's why.

Visiting Keene, first time here.

I ordered a chicken salad sandwich on toasted bread with avocado. Simple enough - right? Apparently not.

I opened the sandwich which had somehow become SOGGY in it's brief sandwich life, to find HARDLY ANY chicken salad - hardly anything on the bread, and the greens were wilted, a REAL hot mess!

I asked one of the staff to look at the sandwich - "OH - the chicken salad is only on one side - we'll make you another! I can understand the staff trying to minimize the poor quality and preparation. So this time I asked for plain un-toasted bread, because my party and I were running out of time.

The sandwich came again, and while there was admittedly a LITTLE more salad, the chicken was not white meat, and there was an off-putting undertaste as well - so off putting - it was JUST NOT VERY GOOD.

I am surprised by the positive reviews, but maybe I just dined here at the wrong date and the wrong time. I always believe the manager working the floor bears responsibility operationally, and I observed her abrupt response to the reported problem. I will NEVER go back and there again because there are SO MANY more appropriate...
