I’ve been a loyal customer at this incredible pizza spot for years, and it’s safe to say it holds a special place in my heart. Whenever I’m craving a truly amazing calzone, this is the only place in the area that gets it just right. The dough is perfection—always crisp on the outside yet soft and pillowy on the inside. The cheese is melted to creamy, gooey perfection, and the toppings are always hot and flavorful. It's the type of meal that you can't help but savor bite after bite.
Every time I have friends visiting from out of town, I make it a point to bring them here, and they all agree—this place is a gem. It’s become my go-to for not just the food but the overall experience.
Speaking of experience, the decor here is absolutely one-of-a-kind. It’s a quirky mix of nostalgic 80s cartoon figures, skateboard decks, and all sorts of other cool, eclectic items adorning the walls. It’s impossible to walk in and not feel a sense of wonder as you take in all the unique pieces of decor.
The staff here is another highlight. They’re always warm, friendly, and seem genuinely happy to be working. You can tell it’s a positive environment, which really adds to the welcoming vibe of the restaurant.
And let’s not forget about the pizza—it’s just as delicious as their legendary calzones. The crust is always fresh, light yet satisfying, and the toppings are always high-quality. Every bite is a little taste of heaven.
If you happen to be in the area, do yourself a favor and order my usual: a buffalo chicken calzone with jalapeno peppers and ricotta cheese. It’s a flavor combination that’s unmatched and will have you coming...
Read moreThe TLDR is that Underdog has OK pizza. Not great, but good. We got a pizza to take out one night when our usual two places were closed. Ingredients were fresh, staff was friendly when we picked up. Atmosphere is non-existent, which is OK since it's a pizza place in a college town, certainly geared to takeout and delivery more than eating in.
Having visited NYC a lot and eaten a fair amount of pizza there, in my opinion Underdog is not serving NY style pizza - the crust isn't right. That's actually OK with me, as I'm not a huge fan of super thin crust. I would compare Underdog's crust to that of a good frozen pizza in flavor and texture.
But here's the thing: Restaurant food is expensive. It's about thirty bucks for a large pizza at Underdog. For the same price I can go to the local brick oven pizza joint one block away (when they are open) and get a far superior pie. Or I can go to the neighborhood pizza place around the corner and get a "pretty good" pizza for a bit less. Or I can go to the grocery store, get a frozen pizza that's about the same quality, and pay 1/5th as much.
There's no reason for me to travel farther to pay more for a pie that's just OK, so I doubt I'll...
Read moreI am usually unsure of pizza places I have never tried before. During the ice festival in Keene this year my sister my self and our kids stopped into underdog and got a pizza because the kids were hungry, and for a place I never tried before, they were good. I didn’t realize it’s was the same place we ordered from tonight until I got there to pick up our food. I’m big on grinders, and tonight I traveled from Jaffrey to Keene to get their food versus from the pizza place here in town that I can see from my front door. Underdog blows them out of the water and every time we order pizza we will be going to underdog from now on. They are so good their pizza is awesome and their grinder roles are soft and not hard and stale like the pizza place in my town. This is mine and my family’s new favorite place. And we will definitely be returning customer. The staff there is so kind and polite, my fiancé likes to get hot Sauce on his grinders, and underdog is so far the only place that didn’t sound confused or talked to me like I was crazy by his order. Also my daughter at I just love all the skateboards on the walls. Haha. I can’t stay enough good thing...
