Cap'n Yoby's Drive-In — Restaurant in Kelso

We normally love this place, however, lately the quality has taken a dive. Then, we get a bad experience with service. I ordered 21 mcdinkys, etc. The lady brought out our order and stated we must not have heard her call out our number, I agreed, we didn't, but I had heard her tell another customer that they don't get shakes because they are too runny, so I thought that was what I was going to find out when I asked about our shake, instead, we get a snarky I only have two hands. OKAY....anyways, since I only had 3 mcdinkys, we followed her up front, where she proceeds to give my daughter her shake, which was super runny, so we didn't even get the courtesy of the other customers on the option of opting out on that, then I stood there and she says, what, your order is there, pointing at the bags with my daughter. I said, no, that is only 3 mcdinkys, I ordered 21. She then proceeded to argue with me about it stating I only ordered 3, which, by the way I watched her write down ( i didn't, i don't stare at what people write down) she looked to my daughter who says, no, she ordered 21. She continued to argue with me about it! Seriously, i am not here to argue about what i want, either take my order or not. I don't care if you heard me wrong, ring up the rest and make them, i have a bunch of people to feed, I never said I wouldn't pay for them. So i tell her i don't want to sit here and argue about it, I just want my 21 mcdinkys. She says she doesn't want to argue either. Really? Because you are the one arguing. Anyways, she takes our order, yells back to the cook to make 18 mcdinkys, and we hear, you gotta be f** kidding me. REALLY? this is how you want to run a business? Has no one had orders for big groups? I wasn't complaining about the wait time. So, as we are waiting for the rest of the order to be cooked, we hear her not only complaining in the back, but giving other customers who ordered after us and didn't have that long of a wait extras for their time. So, no to help on the shake and its my fault she didn't take our order correctly. (Because I also didn't pay attention to how much I paid for the first order, she kindly pointed that out, again, my fault) To add to this, the guys who got the food said the fries were absolutely soggy, they couldn't eat them and the mcdinkys were dry with way too much sauce. I was so excited to try this place after hearing so many good things… I’m so incredibly disappointed. Firstly when we pulled up to the drive through the woman seemed not only annoyed that we were there but incredibly frustrated that we asked to see a menu so we could order and sighed loudly before shoving it out and saying “ we don’t have milkshakes and we don’t have something else” before slamming window after handing us the menu.

She took our order and told us pull round to the other side and wait.

Food was shoved out at us and we were not asked if we wanted any extras like ketchup or salt or vinegar.. we ordered the two piece halibut and fries. That’s fine but when I went in to ask the woman rolled her eyes when she thought I was not looking and just in general made it uncomfortable.

This would have been worth it if the food was even remotely good. For a 16 dollar fish and chips basket I expected at least decent portions. The serving of fish was about the size normally served with kids meals. Which had it even been remotely edible would have at least been somewhat worth it. What awaited us instead was rubbery chewy flaccid fish that had no seasoning whatsoever. To make matters worse it was under cooked and not even the tarter sauce could save this mess. The fries while hot tasted like the oil had not been changed in weeks and that weird freezer burned taste that tends to linger and were not even salted. The whole meal was a waste of money and honestly inedible. Maybe it was an odd day out for them but I would honestly just save your money and go to one of several other incredible places to...

First of all, the staff is very friendly and Charming. I used to frequent this place quite a few years ago. I recently stopped in because I always loved their fish and chips, whether it be the Cod or the halibut. I was excited to get their two piece cod fish and chips. I was pleasantly surprised that the two piece was quite large, most perfect for me. BUT I discovered, as I ate, that the fish batter was much MUCH thicker than I previously experienced, making the Cod portions appear rather huge. As I ate, I discovered that the fish batter was so thick it was not completely cooked. Not to make a fuss, I stripped the fish batter off and just ate the Cod. The Cod was as good as I remembered, but as I looked at my plate, there was more fish batter left on the plate than there had been Cod. I just had to say something LOL I brought this fact to the attention of the young man that was working there, just to let him know that this had not been my previous experience at their establishment. He politely thanked me for bringing it to his attention and took the left over fish batter to discuss it with the establishment. I thanked him and said I would be back to try it again before I make a BIGGER fuss LOL I will review again and let you know if they have re-established the tradition of great fish and chips I had always experienced...
