Kennebunk Rice and Noodles — Restaurant in Kennebunk

I recently moved to Kennebunk with my dog and learned that there was only one Vietnamese restaurant in town. I’m not usually the one who patron a Vietnamese establishment that sells other foods besides Vietnamese food and I had low expectations; however, I was carving for Vietnamese food and curious at the same time. I was the only one dinning at the time (3pm-ish). My food came out quickly and I was pleasantly surprised to see how good the egg rolls were. They were made with authentic traditional ingredients and as I was enjoying every last flavor I thought that the egg rolls would have been even better if they were made using rice papers. So will give the egg rolls an 8.5/10. I order the egg banh mi and it was decent. The bread itself didn’t seem very fresh so I’ll give it a 5.5/10. It would be higher had it came with pate and fresh banh mi. The special pho itself (I ordered a regular) seem adequately portioned. I appreciate the herbs given were fresh and adequately supplied. The noodles were al-dente and the meatballs and meats were decent. The broth was adequate to satisfy my cravings, but I thought it could have been more aromatic, lighter and more refreshing. I’ve had take out from here twice. The food was pretty decent. Both times I called ahead and a family member picked up the order. Last night we walked in and tried to place an order at 8:30. The place was completely empty, but they would not take the order because they close at nine. If this is the case, that should be somehow integrated into their posted hours. I feel like they just didn’t want do it last night and made that call. In addition, we were pretty unimpressed with the cleanliness of the place. I ordered from DoorDash and it was subpar. The banh mi was ok, just ok. The summer rolls were advertised as having shrimp, pork, and mint, and none of those three items were present. The orange chicken was awful. A lot of sauce, very little chicken. It also took forever. The initial estimate said we would get our food at 8:40, and I think it finally showed up closer to 9:30 PM. And the DoorDash courier had to wait at the restaurant for like 10 minutes.
