If you’re not a local, be aware you might get snubbed.
My friends and I stopped here on our way to Portland from Boston. We thought it would be fun to stop in and experience a cute local spot outside of Portland and this place had great reviews. We LOVE a good wine place and supporting local businesses, so it felt like a win-win to do that and stretch our legs after an international flight.
We walked up knowing they closed soon (we thought) and so we’d have a quick glass and maybe purchase a bottle or two to bring with us. We walked up and the place was quite busy with a book club starting, and we were greeted right away from a lovely woman who told us we could sit at the bar or outside. I was a bit cold, so wanted to sit inside, but the bar manager declined. No problem. We sat outside and were able to sit under the heater, all was still going well.
Once we were served the wine is where things went downhill very quickly. It was someone else and she dropped the wine off and went to turn the heater down despite me sitting there looking cold sitting directly underneath. She was perturbed that I wanted it on still. My friend then asked if there was a bottle list we could look at as well and we were told it’s the same as the glass list, even though we saw a handful of bottles upon walking in which were not on the list. We mentioned we heard the list was curated and were thrilled about it. We were met with hostility “I’m not sure what you’re getting at” and the whole thing soured our experience. Really unnecessary rudeness.
We felt like we were a bother and not sure what we did to have that treatment. All in all, I wish we had just kept going to Portland where the wine bars would be happier to have us. I didn’t finish my wine, we paid...
Read moreWe recently enjoyed a beautiful wine tasting at Wine House on Maine for my sisters bachelorette, and we can’t say enough good things. Betsy was extremely knowledgeable, teaching us about wine with lots of fun facts and of course, delicious wine. Our experience was personalized to our bride, (we loved Betsy’s special touches!) however, this would be an awesome experience for any group looking for a fun activity in Kennebunkport. Betsy was accommodating of our groups allergies and food restrictions and served us a beautiful charcuterie board in addition to hummus and different crackers. Betsy has a large selection of wine from all over, and again, her passion for wine was evident from the start and just added to the experience. Price was extremely reasonable, and we felt like we had just enough wine, while also bringing some bottles home. Our bride even signed a cork and it has a special spot in the wine house. Thank you so much Betsy. We can’t...
Read moreBetsy’s the best! Every time I throw a party, stopping into Wine House on Main is a must.
I bring her my menu and she always picks the perfect pairings for me - whether it’s a Labor Day Cookout or a fancy 10 course plated dinner, she always has the right recommendations. She’s a wealth of information and has even done write-ups on the wine to share with my guests since I can never seem to remember all the cool details about her picks. Choosing wine can be intimidating, but Betsy makes the process fun!
And, walking into her shop is like stepping into a friend’s house. I always feel welcome and her warm and friendly energy is infectious - even her other customers are sociable and engage with you! Stopping in for a quick glass of wine can easily turn into hanging out for a few hours because everyone is so delightful. I even ended up signing up for the events classes and that was a blast!
Can’t speak highly enough of what Betsy’s built at the Wine...
