Very disappointed! So, I’ve ordered food from Curry Village several times over the past couple of years, and I’ve also eaten in the restaurant. The flavor and condition of the food hasn’t always been consistent, but that’s not to say it wasn’t up to par...until recently, for me anyway.
It started a few months back with a delivery order of Coconut Curry Soup, along with an order of Coconut Curry Chicken and Sag Aloo. The soup was a disgustingly thick, flavorless mess...and the chicken and spinach were the same - flavorless! It was late evening, and as I’d never experienced this level of cooking before, I thought perhaps someone was cutting corners and “watered” down the soup to “stretch”, without adding any additional seasonings. So very gross. The chicken required Herculean strength to cut and chew.
I called the restaurant to complain, because while the food isn’t $$$$ expensive, it’s still a pretty penny to pay for tasteless, nauseating food! The manager apologized and told me to let him know the next time I ordered so he could comp the soup...but you know what? I told him I don’t want “free”, I just want value and some care when I order and pay for food.
Anyway, my next order was over-the-top great! Better than anything I’d ever tasted from them before!! I was so pleasantly surprised that I called again! This time to compliment the cook! I spoke to the manager again, and he encouraged me to write a review to that effect; however, I wouldn’t even consider that without having that lightening strike once more, consecutively. Alas, it didn’t happen. My following order, while not bad...was back to “normal”, acceptable for the price.
A couple of days ago I visited the restaurant with my sisters and the food was on point. The Coconut Soup was fantastic, and the chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned. So, today, feeling pretty confident that my previous horror-show of an order was a thing of the past, I ordered delivery and got soup even nastier than before! Oh my god! I cannot imagine anyone being served this garbage inside the restaurant! The chicken was the tough, gross, sugary, non-seasoned mess as before, with the added bonus of tasting like two-days-old, sat-on-the-counter-all-night-COULD-make-you-sick yucky stuff. I also got some goat, and it too seemed like it was days old...tough and tasteless! There is no way anyone in the back of that house tasted any of this food!! No way.
Hence, this review. I’m done with them...done using myself as a guinea pig to see if, not WHEN, they’ll make me sick...while I pay for it.
Very disappointed. I’ll move on to other well-mentioned Indian cuisine restaurants in the area....
Read moreTo begin with, I am Indian and have ate at MANY Indian/Paki/Punjabi restaurants. My family and I went for dinner (not the buffet) tonight for Fathers Day.
Pro: They had a 2 free beers limit for the father.
Now for the review:
Upon entering, I noticed the restaurant being dead empty - and it was around 7 PM. It may have been due to Father's Day and people are BBQing, not going to an Indian restaurant, but that's giving benefit of the doubt. Ambience was okay. It wasn't anything new. No wall paintings or anything. Lighting was adequate. Tables. Booths. That's about it. We were greeted by a friendly waiter who's name I did not get. Staff seems friendly.
Menu was disappointing in that, there is nothing new. In fact, we were having trouble deciding from a limited menu. It's a very limited menu and if you're Indian or a seasoned Indian restaurant goer, you're in for a disappointment. Same old butter chicken, tikka masala, etc etc. We ordered a chicken, goat, and paneer dish (3 mains) as well as 3 apps. Apps were better than the mains, but again - it's the same old same. The chicken was dry and chewy. The goat was chewy as well. Paneer was okay. Naan was good. I understand that maybe the menu is limited and quite simple from a business standpoint. The original items sell and people know it - even if you're not Indian. An Eskimo probably knows what chicken vindaloo is. Anyway, moving onto price.
It is overpriced. Our bill was $71. For traditional items with nothing exactly new, it could've been cheaper. Service was great though. Waitor wasn't annoying or gone forever. He came the perfect amount of times.
Overall, I give this place a 2/5. If you're out of food at home, then go and feed thy stomach. If you're expecting something to wow you or want better prepared mains, go somewhere else.
Thanks for the 2 free...
Read moreI love the vegetarian choices at this lunch buffet! My fav was the Sag Paneer as the paneer cheese is so yummy! I had three servings of it! I also loved the mushroom dish. I went with my boyfriend who is not a fan of Indian food. He put a damper of my enjoyment of the food but I can understand some of his critiques. For Americans that are not familiar with Indian food, it would be helpful to not just label the dishes with the Indian name but a description of what exactly it consists of. I was willing to gamble mainly because of the reviews I read earlier that said there were 3 tables and one was vegetarian so I tried everything from that table. But when you don't know in advance, it is kind of worrisome.
I loved the other things I ate but I cannot tell you what they were called. I did feel bad for my boyfriend who was just not happy with anything. He said the chicken was dry plus he found small bones in one of the meat dishes. Another complaint of his was that just water was served. He didn't see anyone else with anything but water so we figured that was all that was offered. It was fine with me because that is what I usually order.
Since this was a buffet, we only saw the server when we got there and when we were ready to pay. When I got another serving, my old plates disappeared so service was swift but I didn't have much interaction with them but the little I did, they were friendly and welcoming.
So I guess in summary, this place is great for fans of Indian food but if you are a burger and fries kind of person, you may...
