I almost don't want to write this review because I don't want to spoil the hidden gem I've found, but Antonia’s Pizzeria deserves the recognition. It's one of the best pizza places in the country, even better than John’s of Bleecker Street in New York.
I heard about this place and decided to give it a try. While I usually rate pizzas on the One Bite app, this spot isn't listed there, so I have to share my thoughts here. I've tried some of the top pizza places that Dave Portnoy has reviewed, and this one is easily in the 9's on the rating scale.
From the initial bite, the pizza is crispy, and as you chew, you notice the dough is light and airy—something only a few places in the United States have mastered. The sauce tastes like fresh tomatoes, with a hint of basil lingering, and the parmesan adds a flavorful punch to each bite. Angelo's Pizzeria in South Philly uses sourdough, which has similar characteristics to this great pizza.
The owners are super kind and welcoming, and you can tell they make their pizza with great care. Antonia’s Pizzeria deserves all the attention, even if it means ruining the gem I found by chance. If I were rating this on the One Bite app, it would be...
Read moreI am always stingy with my star ratings because I do not like to waste each of their star value, but Antonia’s Pizzeria gets five stars, because, why not. They are a local young family operation that I perceive operates with mindfulness and kindness. Something that I think is lacking in many businesses.
With that said, I really like their pizza. The crust not too thick and not too thin is crispy out of the oven. I like how my teeth sink into the crust with a soft crisp sound you can hear inside your skull and can be heard by someone next to you. It is a delightful crisp sound. But that is not all, this delightful pizza crust is topped with toppings that are bursting with umami. So satisfying. So comforting. Reminds me of the homemade pizza I had in a friends and family gathering in Coriano Italy.
They also have planted some herbs for fresh pickings! I helped myself to some to add to my pizza. Sweet...
Read moreWas coming down to Longwood for the afternoon/evening to celebrate my birthday and wanted good pizza. Found Antonias after searching on Google and was not disappointed. I knew they didn't have seating but when my wife and I were going to eat at there small counter they offered to bring out a table and chairs. Then the "Sweet Heat" pizza was delicious! A wonderful combination of sweet, savory, and spicy having honey, pepperoni, and jalapeño peppers on it. It was a solid slice with no flop. The crust looked heavy but was light, exactly how I like it. The only thing this place could use is indoor seating sooner which I know is on the way. If you're coming to the area order your pizza early as they're reserved typically by early afternoon. Can't say enough about the owners kindness and great pizza! Next time we're around Longwood we'll...
