While the experience was neat, I was assured multiple times in advance that my gluten and egg sensitivities could easily be accommodated as long as the restaurant had plenty of notice. They knew about my issue with gluten for at least 2 weeks (or more) and the egg issue a week before. I was assured that the chef would "do something special" for me so that I'd still have the experience.
Doing something special translated into just leaving parts of the various courses off my plate with the exception of the pasta course where they made some zucchini pasta in lieu of wheat pasta. The price of my dinner was still the same, nonetheless.
I totally understand that sometimes I am paying extra for safety and that a restaurant will accommodate me, but this felt thoroughly unfair considering the amount of notice they were given and the assurances I received. This restaurant industry practice of just removing items from the plate feels abusive as the price of the meal increases. Yes, the experience was neat, but the food wasn't blow-your-mind-amazing. Alba in Malvern has much better food.
What has bothered me the most since that night (and also upset my dinner-mates) was that the beautiful apple-stuffed pancakes with ice cream was served to everyone else while I got a "seasonal fruit plate" that, while attractively plated, felt like a total afterthought. I went for food that I'd not cook at home. A small fruit plate with local fruit readily available is something I could have made myself.
Considering that there's a local gluten-free bakery in Kennett Sq., I'm not sure why they didn't think to just get me something from there so that the meal in its entirety felt special. Instead I paid the same price as everyone else for an experience that focused on what the restaurant could conveniently remove...
Read moreI found this place on Google while looking up for vegetarian friendly restaurants. It took me a while & few attempts by a displeased server to finally understand that it's a Marketplace which has every single item except for the drinks spread out & displayed in various corners. I absolutely adored their setup! We sat outside because we got our dog along & it was nice outside given it's on a beautiful street. The interiors are done tastefully & are very cozy. It was really packed probably because we went on a Sunday morning during holiday hours.
Talking about the food. We got an almond croissant, an order of hot chocolate, sesame noodles (I don't remember the exact order name) & veg enchiladas. The hot chocolate was really good in taste & size. Absolutely loved the croissant, my husband liked the noodles, lastly the enchiladas were crispy outside but the filling was really bland.
I also picked an almond cake which I didn't love because of the texture, it was really soft & fresh though. A bottle of fig preserve & a box of granola. The granola is a little overcooked & gives a little burnt flavor in a few bites. They have an excellent selection of other bakery items & really good cheese, I just tried the goat cheese which I'm likely to get on the next visit. I'm likely to give another chance to their food which I found a little pricey for the portion size. But I'll be going here regardless, for the baked goods & excellent...
Read moreOn one of our many weekly visits to Talulahs, our local beloved coffee shop, i realized I’ve never reviewed them formally. This charming coffee shop has become a staple in our weekend routine, and for good reason.
One of the highlights of Talulahs is their exceptional coffee. Whether you're in the mood for a perfectly brewed americano or a delightful chaggachino, their high-quality coffee will not disappoint. The flavors are rich and robust but customizable and deliciously caffeinated.
In addition to their fantastic coffee, Talulahs offers a wide selection of truly enjoyable and always fresh in-house food options. From sandwiches to scrumptious pastries, there is something for everyone to enjoy. What I love most is their commitment to seasonal items, ensuring that there is always something new and exciting to try.
What truly sets Talulahs apart is their welcoming atmosphere. Despite the small seating space and occasional long lines, the staff always greets you with the warmest of smile and provides excellent service over and over. It's no wonder that my two toddler daughters ask to go to Talulahs every few days. It has truly become a cherished part of our weekend tradition.
If you haven't already, I highly recommend paying a visit to Talulahs. It is a hidden gem in Kennett and a bright spot in our community. So don't let the small space or long lines deter you. Trust me, the experience and the flavors are...
