A few friends had talked up The Villager as being a favorite local spot. While the restaurant itself is beautifully situated with surrounding shops and lovely outdoor seating, I found the food left a lot to be desired.
A friend and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. From my understanding, the restaurant is family-owned. All of the servers were quick and attentive, so I can’t say anything negative in regards to the care we received.
I ordered a Pastrami on Rye with a Side of Fries and a Coke. Given the restaurant’s hype, I just wasn’t impressed. The quality seemed to be there, but my sandwich was bland—the pastrami was under-seasoned and lacked any depth. The French fries were your average diner style, and lacked salt.
From other reviews, I’m wondering if I simply ordered the wrong thing. I’m hoping to go back again and perhaps, give their breakfast menu a try. I’m hoping my experience was simply subjective and not a testament to the...
Read moreThe food is good, most of the time. They just literally make a mistake every single time we order online or eat in person. My husband is allergic to milk and cheese, we always clearly write and clearly order “no cheese” and they literally put cheese on his order every time. No matter what he orders. It ruins the dining experience when everyone gets their food and he has to wait for it to be remade every single time. They always fix it, but when we tell them they made a mistake they always say “well it’s suppose to come with cheese.” Yeah.. we obviously know that it’s “suppose” to come with cheese, that’s why we say no cheese. Every time. Sadly we won’t be back again.
And they never apologize for their mistakes. My husband just went back to have his burger fixed, we paid for sweet potato fries, they gave him regular. No one apologized for their mistake AND they put raw bacon on his burger. Disgusting...
Read moreI've been patronizing the Villiager in Downtown Kent for several years now. A great place for a quick bite while motorcycling through the Litchfield Hills. The Sidewalk café offers umbrella sourced shade, a cool breeze and a great vantage point to keep an eye on your pride-and-joy. Prices are very reasonable and although they do not have a liquor permit, they do encourage picking up a bottle at Kent Wine and Liquor literally right next door and enjoying that with your meal. They have terrific sandwiches including an awesome Ruben and a variety of Clubs, great burgers as well as a variety of fresh salads. The lunch specials are always delicious and often include refreshing treats such a beet based salad. No seafood except for the tuna in their Club sandwich. Fast and friendly service, reasonable prices, and a great people (or pride & joy) watching spot....
