First time visit. Stopped in on a Sunday evening a little after 7pm.
ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant looks really nice (except for a few burned-out lights and a weird mess of electronics & wires in the corner of the lobby). Decor is thoughtful, benches are comfortable. All hard surfaces (especially the lack of carpet on the floor) make for a lot of noise, especially when combined with music that's heavy on midrange. I can only imagine how loud this place is when it's full! Carpeting would improve the noise level a great deal.
SERVICE: We noticed there was no host/greeter to welcome us, which made waiting for a table awkward. Our server was kind and courteous but not very attentive. She dropped the ball a couple times. It wasn't awful but it was noticeable.
Price-wise and food-wise this place is comparable to Sheshco. (In fact, reviews comparing the two places are why we stopped by.) We found it less-enjoyable than Shescho for a few reasons.
The food is similar but not quite as good. Bread is less soft and pillowy, meats are less tender, and rice is not served standard with the meals (it's an option that is available instead of grilled vegetables). We ordered our meats medium and they came out well-done (no pink).
Spices and seasonings are good but somewhat less robust. Crushed lentil soup is excellent. Chicken soup tastes like boring American chicken soup. Vegetable mix at Le Kabob has much less onion than Sheshco and, instead, tons of parsnip; I like parsnips fine but I missed the onion. The sauce served with chicken here was so thin and runny that I stopped bothering with it.
Water is served in mostly opaque dark-colored cups which are smaller than the soda glasses. Although that undoubtedly makes it easier to remember which guests sre drinking water it also had a prominent downside: this makes it difficult for servers to know when guests need their water refilled, which will happen more often because of smaller cups.
Le Kabob charges different prices for cash or card payments. That's understandable, but it would be much better if cash payment was discounted (below listed menu pricing) instead of adding a fee (above menu pricing) for card payments. Paying above menu pricing Is always off-putting.
Overall it's a decent place for those willing to spend $20-30 per person on Mediterranean food. But we like Sheshco quite...
Read moreI just want to start by saying the food here is amazing. Love the food especially the garlic spread. You are getting this low star review for service. You really need to have more consistency in your server training. It’s almost 50-50 we get a good server or one absolutely terrible. And that’s not acceptable. We eat here at least twice a month because the food is so good but will no longer if something doesn’t change. Our server tonight Cassandra was the worst server I’ve had in this entire city. To start off the night it took 15 minutes just for her to acknowledge us standing there wanting a table. Then after being sat we waited another 20 minutes before she ever came back to get drink orders or bring bread. After we placed our order she starting bringing out the food and forgot to bring out one of our cups of chili. We then preceded to wait another 20 minutes and she brought out our entrees. when I brought up she forgot my chili she said she would go get it. She then preceded to go to a new table take their order go to the computer type in their order take a phone call then another 10 minutes then she brought out my chili. I made a comment saying well that took a long time her only response was yup. She then disappeared for the rest of the dinner. We had to walk up to the counter to get drink refills from a different server. Who was kind enough to help us he also got us boxes and a bag for our leftovers. So to end this just want to say please train your employees better because this evening was unacceptable and we and our friends will...
Read moreEdit: the owner just responded to my complaint. If you look at all the negative ratings, all the owner replies is the customer is wrong and they can’t satisfy everyone. Way to go to try and keep your customers happy. I paid money for this service and was not given free food. Good businesses own up their pitfalls and make it better for their customers and their businesses, but guess this business is of course better than any others out there. The business did not respond anything about the watered down lamb chilli soup. How is that not cheating your customers? I am not asking for a kings dinner and don’t expect one for 40 bucks, but atleast a decent eatable food. I understand things happen and mistakes happen but you own up and correct them not tell your customers you can’t satisfy them. Good luck sir. Thank God I don’t have to eat at your business anymore. Have a nice day.
I am so surprised this restaurant has the rating it has. I ordered an entree of shish kafta and chicken shawarma. It had a side of lamb chili soup. The soup was so watered down, I was shocked. I live in Detroit suburbs and have eaten some of the best Mediterranean food. This was the worst by far. This is cheating your customer- adding water to soup just to increase the quantity. Chicken shwarma was undercooked - white in color- really ? Kafta was a rock. So sad. My family had to go to sleep half full. I called the restaurant back to mention about the food and all I heard is sorry and slammed the phone. Anyway, thank God I don’t have to eat...
