If you've never had Taco Casa, its probably because you live in a large city (unless your in Dallas), as most Taco Casa locations are in small to medium sized towns and I tend to only eat at them when traveling. There are locations in Kerrville, Hutto, Killeen, Waco, College Station, Lufkin, Abilene ect..

Taco Casa, is for lack of any better description, is a competitor to Taco Bell, and similar to Taco Mayo if your from Oklahoma. This isnt authentic Mexican food, you wont find gorditas or even soft tacos on the menu. What you will find is, plain crispy tacos, supreme tacos, taco salad, the chilada, nachos, frijole cups, tostadas, a basic burrito, and the chili burger which I call a taco burger (like Taco Mayo's) mentioned above.
Theres a few things that set Taco Casa apart however. On this visit I got a chili burger and crispy taco. My taco this visit was very generous, probably 2-3 times what you would get at Taco Bell. It was filled with plenty of meat, and topped with a large pile of cheese. As far as portion for your money Taco Casa wins.
My chili burger, instantly reminded me of the show "Rosanne" and the "loose meat sandwich". This is kinda like a sloppy joe, but its taco meat between a hamburger bun, topped with lettuce, and shredded cheese for an upcharge. I even put sauce on mine.. Probably an item kids would like more than adults. I know as a kid one of my favorites here was the bean cups with hot sauce.
And while Taco Bell offers multiple choices of salsa, theres only 1 here. The packets simply say "hot sauce". As far as heat level goes, I'd rank it above Taco Bells hot, and maybe closer to the Fire level.
You may have thought I made a typo, earlier, but yes theres a menu item called the "chilada" its an enchilada. Aside from being served in a paper boat, and being topped with shredded cheese, it comes with one odd item, it has sliced black olives on top. Its definitely different, and one of those items you will either love or hate. Keep in mind this is an enchilada from a drive thru fast food Mexican restaurant.
Taco Casa is one of those places that small town residents love, its cheap, its fast, used to be crazy cheap, like eat until you couldn't hold any more for $5 cheap.. But those days have gone, and while the prices have gone up, its still pretty cheap. Just 5 years ago I was traveling with friends and all 3 of us ate for less than $20.
If your a Taco Bell fan, you might wanna give this place a try next time you pass one, or if you just like crispy tacos, because these are actually pretty good.
Its always hard to score a place like this, but if we are talking crispy tacos, fast food, portions and price. This is...
Read moreSince there are 2 Taco Casa locations in Kerrville, I want to start by specifying this review is for the one located on the west side of town, on 891 Junction Hwy.
The food here is very good. The super tacos are very delicious and they go very nice with Nachos. One drink I highly recommend is their half and half tea-lemonade, known there as "swamp water". Don't ask me why it's called that lol. The only problem I have with this location specifically is their outdated speaker system from employee to driver in the drive-thru. Apparently the device in question is over 30 years old (older than me mind you). To use it, you gotta put your head close to the device and press a button to speak. I have not tried it, but you can see it in action if you are at the order counter inside and I must admit it looks awkward to use. With that said, when you go through the drive-thru, the employee taking your order sounds very static-y. Sometimes I can barely hear the employee at all. So if your hard of hearing like my mom is, I suggest going inside for placing your order if possible.
Hopefully the owner of the location will consider upgrading to 21st century tech and use headset microphones like many other drive-thru equipped restaurants.
In conclusion, the food at Taco Casa is good, so I do recommend stopping on in(side).
P.S. I have not done the drive-thru at the 1215 Sidney Baker St, location. Next time I am in the area, I'll be sure to see if their drive-thru sound system is...
Read moreMy 'Host" was Joshua and my "Cashier" was Fabie. At approxiamately 1:30pm on 12/01/2016 I went through the drive-through at this location and ordered 2 Super Burritos, a Chilada, and an XL Lemonade. At the window, Fabie asked me 'how many sauces would you like?" To which I replied, "SIX." She nodded, turned around, grabbed a white bag and handed it to me, then said "thank you" and closed the window. I did not drive away without first inspecting my bag. It was missing a super burrito. I waited for Fabie to open the window again, and when I told her it was short one burrito, she asked, "They didn't put it in there?" "Nope!" I smiled and answered. She quickly fetched my second burrito, apologized sweetly, and I left to return to my office for Lunch. Upon reaching my office, I discover there are NO Taco sauces in my bag at all.
That is the absolute LAST TIME I go to TACO CASA. I know it shouldn't be a big deal, but when you are in a hurry during a lunch break from work, you can't afford to waste time on completely incompetent servers. I'm not going to turn my truck around for six taco sauces, but I also won't be spending any more money there ever again. The fact that Fabie asked me about the sauces, and my answer went in one ear and out the other, irks...
