The lagoon cafe — Restaurant in Key Largo

Not Good at all! The service was great, atmosphere was dull, should have had some music or something to make it more welcoming. The place used to be Over Easy, which was an excellent breakfast restaurant with a California menu and organic food, fresh ground coffee and very nice atmosphere. You would have to wait in line to get a table most days.

We thought we would take a chance and try it out since we saw 12-5 star reviews. We ordered the standard 2 egg breakfast over medium and they came out; one was over well and the other over easy. You could literally taste the vegetable oil used to cook everything (eggs, bacon, hash browns) everything had the same taste of a cheap vegetable oil, it was clearly not an olive oil or any other kind of healthy oil. I felt ill after just a few bites and had to leave 3/4 of it on my plate. Being used to eating all organic foods whenever possible and very aware of what ingredients are in the foods we eat, we could tell by the first bite, not good. It’s sad, but there are only a handful of good healthy choices to eat at in the Keys and The Lagoon Cafe is not one of them! Overpriced and lousy food, we would not recommend it if you’re looking for a tasty healthy meal. Try Cafe Mocha or Gardenia’s instead, atmosphere and organic food...

I’ve come to the Lagoon Cafe 4 or 5 times since it changed names. Every time I’ve come in, i have ordered eggs benedict poached either medium or hard because I can’t eat runny whites. Once again today I ordered them poached medium and asked the waitress please, no runny whites and once again, they came out undercooked with slimy, runny whites. I couldn’t eat them so I pushed my plate forward. My server took and ran my credit, didn’t say a word about the full plate of food. I said “you’re really going to charge me for this?”

Her response was “well, I can give you a discount” after charging me full price?

The restaurant has an amazing food product. Unfortunately the service while nice was very unorganized and long wait times. Some organization and better management of workers is needed. Witnessed 2 families walk out because of slow service. They have one person taking all the orders for the customers. To many tables for one person. Then customers get lost in the shuffle and simple things like coffee and water are missed to the customers. Good luck. Hope you’re able to improve...
