Wowā¦. I donāt know what they are doing here but I wish I could fly back to Key West just for another chocolate chip cookie. I donāt normally buy chocolate chip cookies⦠they arenāt my favorite ⦠but it sounded good that night and this store appeared. The door was open and I crossed the street it smelled so yummy in there⦠the cookies are massive!! I just felt I wanted something a little sweet. This was not a mistake⦠in-fact it was my favorite dessert I had the whole week and my only mistake was only buying one even though itās massive to spilt between my family of two. I am writing this review three weeks laterā¦. I have bought chocolate chip cookies from three other places because I have been wanting that cookie šŖ so badā¦. Nothing compares. I freaking want another cookie from them and I wonāt make the same mistake⦠buy the entire cookie for yourself⦠not that I ate it all in one setting it took three days to eat⦠but every bite was delicious even the bite without the chocolate chips⦠in fact that was my favorite part⦠their cookie just by itself self was just that good and thank god the chocolate chips werenāt over done⦠when itās too much chocolate chucks they are covering up a not good cookie. This cookie was magnificent. I wish we got to go back there for plane snack cookies!!
Side note: writing this review as I eat a not so delightful chocolate chip cookie from La Farm Bakery which is why I had to log on here and tell you how yummy this dream cookie was. I was weary of Mattheessens because I donāt normally go to chain dessert shoppes. Like Kilwins Chocolate (in North Carolina and I think I saw one in St. Augustineās FL once) because itās not very good but it is cool to watch them make Carmel or making chocolate goodies. But Matteessens still felt like grandmas kitchen even though it has...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHow fortunate that I just happened to park next to Mattheessen's when visiting nearby Kermit's Key Lime Pie Shop during my trip to the keys. Mattheessen's had their doors open, and as I got out of my car I noticed their yummy-looking counter and figured I'd take a peak in there as well. The very friendly person working there that evening was warm, welcoming, and not at all pushy, but did encourage me to give their pie a try too, noting their homemade crust as something that she felt set them apart. Road tripping the US this year, I have tried a lot of great pie and outstanding desserts in general, but for me, Mattheessen's key lime pie did indeed stand apart! Everything about it was perfect, and the crust definitely lived up to the billing, making it one of my all time top 2 pies and one of my very favorite dessert stops in general across my trip so far. I came back for 2nds and 3rds the next day, and it was just as good, so props for consistency as well! I only wish there were some way for me to get my hands on some back where I live, but I suppose the delicious memories...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI hesitate to leave this three star review because the pie was actually GOOD! Very homemade, very good. The first time we went, the lady was nice and she gave us that good pie, and I donāt want to take away from that. HOWEVER, the second time we went, there was a guy working the counter and he obviously wasnāt very versed in what to do. My husband ordered the key lime milkshake and after some hesitation, the gentleman scooped some hard vanilla ice cream into a cup, filled the top with ice and limeade and gave it to us, all for about $9 IF you donāt leave a small tip, which we did. If you are wondering if you read that right, yes you did. The guy didnāt blend the shake AT ALL. It was a hard ice cream lump with liquid floating around it. We were flabbergasted. How does one drink this? Or do we eat it? Yeah, it ended up in the trash with a lot of disappointment. Needless to say, we wonāt be...
